Starting to research a drone. Needs to be portable for travel and (of course) a good camera. Looking at the DJI Mavic Air so far. Any other recommendations to look at?
I misspelled "Recommendations" in my thread title. I hate when I do that.

| I really like the Mavic Air, but it is the only drone I have experience with. Sorry we didn't fly it when you were in Chicago. I don't suppose you are headed back here any time soon? |

| Not that there are plans for. I expect to be heading to Kalamazoo MI in about a month and maybe another install that I don't know the location of yet. But these trips are not usually over a weekend. That last one was an exception. |

Reading some online reviews and it looks like the Mavic Air is the one to beat in that price range. The Anafi Parrot is comparable, a little less $$ and has a higher res camera, but no terrain avoidance features.
One reviewer on Amazon suggested buying a sub-$100 model to get a good feel for flying one before spending more money. |

| Unless you're looking for a sensor that can to high res at night (ie. 1-inch) you cannot beat the Autel Evo. US made, with phenomenal - I repeat, PHE-NO-MI-NAL, customer service. No built in restrictions tied to no-fly zones (ie. respect the pilot), and the images are terrific. |

| The latest high end drones from DJI capture video up to 4K resolution, if that's what you're after. |

Steve, I am also looking for one and I was looking at Mavic Air too. I also looked at this but not sure and not heard much about so cannot be sure.
Anyone with Potensic experience would help :) |

As someone who's been through many of the DJI offerings over the years, if you're planning on primarily photos rather than videos then I definitely recommend either the Mavic Air or one of the Mavic 2 Zoom/Pro (if your budget can stretch to them). The Air is excellent for its size, and it only takes up as much space as a large lens in a camera bag, making it very easy to bring along "just in case", whereas the Mavic Pros are a bit bulkier and need more planning to bring along, but make up for it with a better optics & gyros and longer flight time.
That being said, if you're thinking video more than photo then Jake's recommendation of the Autel Evo is solid and worth considering, but I've not personally flown one yet. Overall I'd probably still go for the Air just for the smaller size, since the Evo is the same size as the Mavic Pro series, but ultimately any of these would be a good starting point.

I did a fair bit of research and opted for the Parrot Anafi.. It's not got all of the bells and whistles of the Maviks but it is quieter. This was a major selling point for me as I find drones annoying (when someone else is buzzing one around me!)
The Anafi has proven very capable.. I've never had any issues and not even had to do a calibration dance. It's not got object avoidance but it easy to fly and use. |

I'm doing the same search (so I currently don't own a drone) but I'm very interested in the Parrot Anafi. The Gimble allows you to point the camera straight up (a feature I've seen nowhere else) and the prop blades NEVER show in a picture due to the placement of camera and blades. That;s not true of the DJI's. 4k video and a lower price point makes a serious contender for me.

I have the Parrot as I mention. It's a great option in my experience, easy to use and fly and a fair bit quieter (or at least it makes a less annoying whine!) in operation than the Maviks
