So, there are many photographers here. We all edit in one way or another.

What makes a Signature Style?

How do you know?

Is it predictability? Is it seeing the same thing over and over again from a certain tog? Is it the same boring edit every-time? Is it looking at any Social Media and being present in their feed, so you recognize the same thing?

I have no idea what my signature is, but it seems that everyone else does, (seem to know it), so how do you describe other peoples signature??

I am just really curious, as I think, my landscape versus portrait, versus candid, versus black and white are all different.

BUT that does not seem so! (It is amazing when someone say's, 'Oh Yeah that is JNN, it is her signature" But I do not know, or see, it, in my photos or editing?

I can not see it,,,,,, I would love to see it through someone else eyes. Can someone describe to me, what or how they know it is myself

So how can you pick out my name, to my style, to different style photos????? Versus anyone else>????

Or pick out anyone else's 'style'

Does this mean, we are stuck in a rut? do we change our editing, to keep everyone guessing (even if we think we do edit thing different in different formats??)

This is about my comment, huh? :P Well I'll try to explain it with examples shortly. Not everyone has a signature style and not everyone with one produces a discernible signature piece every time. Some people, like myself have adopted one or two signature subjects (i.e. Godzilla and Woody). Some, like you have maybe a combination of subject and editing style. That's my take on it.

I my case, I think it's dramatic perspectives and strong editing. Often a subject of bicycles. I'm trying to develop editing techniques that get away from using tonemapping to achieve that strong look I like.

I have no idea what your style is, Juliet. I'm not able to pick yours out of a crowd.

Juliet, these are all your challenge entries:

To me, there are several things that give you away:

- Dark and/or dramatic editing
a handful of examples, but probably represent about 70% of your entries

- Elaborate, exotic, or avante-garde subjects or themes

- Recurring props or types of props ;-)

And lastly, locations

A combination of all these things make your "signature style", IMO. Do you see any patterns above? :)

Shouldn't be concerned about it unless YOU get tired of it and want to change it up or try new things.

Cheers!

That is really interesting way to understand it Art Roflmao, I can see it! And a huge thans for laying it out in lay mans terms! x

A. I need to move house
B Find different props
C. Get new children
D. Add non dramatic moody floral prints !
E. Break the Pattern
=P

I do get it, I was trying to understand, as I saw signature as more like, "If I see a Bike or Woody in a photo, I immediately think of you or Yo_Spiff, trains and old cars for NikonJeb

That should be a challenge, guess who the photographer is by the photo signature!

I don't know the answer to your question.

But, I was THRILLED when someone recognized my image as mine by my "style". I hadn't known I'd had one either. LOL!

And gee golly, Ken... what a sweet thing you did to help Juliet understand hers!
