The rules state that "you can use cloning to remove unwanted objects as long as you replace them with what would be behind the object in the first place". Would a valid use of this provision allow, for example, the cloning out of a dead petal or a portion of a dead petal of a flower and replacing that section with what would be behind the object?

I wouldn't take it that far. I would consider that to be changing a basic aspect of the image. I would use it remove a power line, or maybe a foot sticking into the corner of the image.

One member said he would ask his child to describe the photo and if the kid's description included the item, it was too major an element to remove.

That's OG thinking, spiffy :-) The current rules make no distinction between "major" and "minor" elements.

To answer the dentist's question: the proposed operation n the flower would be legal.

I think it's Old Guy or Old Geezer (trying not to qualify myself) ...

I always thought it meant "Old Guard" as in "original", but a search shows it began as "Original Gangsta'"...

Or maybe as an original OG (George Burns) had it, it could be Oh, God ... (now updated to OMG?) ...
