I am guessing a remote-controlled, underwater housing high-speed camera and a supply of sticklebacks to release when a kingfisher is around :-)

I saw a kingfisher shot similar to that before. I think the guy said he'd been working two and a half years and went through something like 110,000 shots according to an article I read.

I'm wondering if it's an underwater housing and shooting 4k video and pulling a shot. The photographer at the zoo around here does that quite a bit. She says the 4k is actually pretty good for web sized photos

Oh, heck yeh... if you have crisp 4k video, you essentially have 8 Mpx photos, so even good for pretty good size prints.
