I have a photo, it is an okay photo. But I need an unbiased opinion on a crop or not to crop.

Anyone want to venture into the " I saw it, it sucked, gonna vote it a 2, but pretend to give it a 6, whilst telling her to not crop or crop it, to shut her up" ???????????

I'd love to take a glimpse! :P

Though I wouldn't be able to look until morning

I'll take a look if you need a 3rd opinion.

I don’t think this is ethical. The image you enter is supposed to be all your own work. Asking someone to help you means they will be contributing to the picture and will also be able to vote on it, and hey, they are not going to vote it down are they? Just saying.

I know how to crop, I am asking an opinion about whether the crop should take place to enhance the photo, or not.

It's not uncommon to ask for feedback on an image from a person or two. Yes, the helper could vote up or down on an image(or provide a bad opinion) but thankfully that is the rare exception IMO.

If I provide a pre-submission comment than I don't vote on that photo. I think most others probably do the same.

It's actually a great part of this site, definitely known by the SC and they have participated as well. It is an incredible way to learn from your peers. And it is generally accepted that if you get feedback on an image, those giving feedback will not vote on the image. I will now abstain from voting on her image. Yet by looking and giving feedback on others, I've learned quite a bit. It's easier to critique someone else's work than it is your own. Plus, in seeing what questions she has, I've learned to look at something through someone else's eyes.

I highly recommend critique groups. Such an incredible opportunity to learn from others. I am always willing to give feedback on photos, because I learn so much more that way.

I've seen this request in the forum many times - I have no problem with it. And I'm sure it happens even more frequently privately. Like MarkB, when I give an opinion, if I later see the image in voting, I just don't vote on it. But if someone else feels he or she can see an image before voting and still give an unbiased vote, so be it.
It has never occurred to me that getting someone else's input is in any way unethical; that's actually one of the things about participating here that so many enjoy - the exchange of ideas and opinions.

Edit to add that I was writing as Wendy was posting :)

Do we have to be in your league to "take a look?"
