Hi, I recently bought my first digital camera (a Konica Minolta Dimage X31, if you couldn't tell by the title...). I've been messing around with it some, and have figured out how to work most of the settings; however I can't figure out how to adjust the shutter speed. It says in the specs that it can go between 1/500 to 4 secs....can anyone help me out here? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You'll have to be in a mode that allows it to be adjusted manually. That would be either shutter-preferred or full manual operation. If you're in aperture-preferred mode, or one of the automatic, modes, the camera will want to set it for you.

From what I'm reading about the specs, I can only assume, since it doesn't have aperature or shutter priority modes.. or a manual mode.. that the shutter speed is automatically chosen by the camera based on 1. the mode you are shooting in (landscape, sport, night, et al), and/or 2. the in-camera metering when you depress the shutter half-way.

Can't find anything about a manual shutter option.

It's a little monster isn't it? Did you try changing the exposure compensation? The only way you can influence it is to switch portrait mode on/off or change the compensation. I've not tried the continunous mode, that might give you the max speed.
edit:Here's some shots from my x31
