hi people, i got a new camera tonight and i dont really know its capabilities, i dont know if 8.0 MP is good or exactly what makes a good camera. another question i have is
i put my canon cf card in my sony, it seems to be working, will this hurt it? ok smarties refrain from laughing as much as possible. any suggestions would be appreciated since im so ignorant i dont even know what to ask. i will probably just put this camera in auto mode and hope everything comes out until i read some more books. i only know what half of the things on this camera does
this is the website for this camera

i did read some stuff on this camera, but i only knew what half of it meant
if this camera sucks i need to know now, so i can take it back

thanks kat

Works with CompactFlash as well as MemoryStick.

Memory Stick is used for Sony products, so the prices are usually more. CompactFlash is used by many different cameras, so prices are more competative(cheaper).

MemoryStick 1GB = $499
CompactFlash 1GB = $50

MemoryStick is the size of a stick of gum:

They figure that most owners of Sony products have MemoryStick so it would be good to include. Having the extra CompactFlash port brings people from other cameras because they already have CF cards. All about market share.

Greetings Riotspyne,
Welcome to the land of the 828's!!!! I myself Just got my 828 about a month ago (9/23) and must say I am still amazed at what it will do, as I've told a few people on here, If I ever become half the photographer my camera is, I will be very happy indeed! One Way to check what the camera is capable of is to click on the top of the screen under Camera's, Sony, dsc-f828 (pg 2 or 3 I believe) and see some of the wonderfull shots this camera and the users on here have produced. Also feel free to take a peek in my portfolio. If you have any questions feel free ot drop me a line, while I'm still climbing the learning curve and don't claim to be an expert, perhaps we can muddle through them together!

Curious on your selection of the f828, as I may be getting one soon or a dSLR.

riotspyne, go here //www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscf828/ and read it all, this site has the best articles on digital cameras, very deep and comparing to other similar ones.

I have tested your camera, and my syster have the prior one (717 I think), and they are GREAT cameras, with great lenses and zoom, just one step behind the more pro dSLR, but as they are more "automated" surely most of us will get better shots with the sony... I include my self! When I switched from a sony DSC-S85 (2 or 3 steps under your model) to a nikon D70, I spent some week having worst shoots than before ;-)
