Hello Guys,

I have purchased Canon 750D(Rebel T6i) which came with 18-55 mm STM lens. I have been using Canon SX20 till now. I am used to of Telephoto Zoom lens. Now I am limited to just 18-55 mm. Want to upgrade my lens. I like taking close ups of people from far distance as keeping distance from subject does not make them concious and i get candid photographs. Also Higher focal lenth help me in wildlife photography. Another requirement is to get better photographs in low light conditions. I use my camera majorly during my vacations. So want to travel light. So option one is to buy 18-135 mm STM and return 18-55 mm STM. This will save me from hastle of changing lens during vacations. But there is a budget constraint. Option two is to go for 55-250 mm non STM and keep 18-55 mm STM with me as well. Saves cost. Now the problem is these lens comes with F3.5 -5.6 which is not good in low light condition. Bad Bokeh also. Plus point is they have Image stebalization. How would you rate 18-135 mm STM lens? Is it good at 135 mm F5.6? Will I get dark images at that focal length? I have a third option of buying 40 mm STM pancake lens as it has F2.8. Also it is small. But it does not have image stebalization. My hands are not that sturdy as they used to be 10 years back. At a time i dont want to keep more than two lens. Do you have any other option? My budget is 10-15 k now and another 10k in next six months.

Hi Steve, first off welcome to DPC, you will learn a ton here. There are also many Canon shooters here who are bound to chime in soon. I shoot Nikon myself, but did so only after trying out Canon for a bit as my ex-bf shot Canon. Canon suited him perfectly because he liked the bigger camera body size and the weight. For that same reason size and weight, and I am not a teeny little girl - put me off of Canon and pushed me towards the more compact and so-called *plasticky* Nikon brand. Which is much lighter overall and easier on the wrists.

So if weight is an issue for you then maybe Canon may be a bit much. In terms of lenses, you will probably want an 18-200 f2.8 for wildlife, as a very basic lens. A teleconverter may come in handy too, it doesn't sound like you want a 500mm f.4....that thing weights 8.5lbs!!! My ex was able to shoot it handheld but he was also quite strong. I think some users have the third party Sigma lens, aka the 'Bigma', which I think is 150-500mm. Other low light lenses, well, I'll let the Canoneers chime in and take over from here.

ETA: Uhm, Steve, I am little confused...people are responding to a thread you posted about which camera to buy, yet on the same day you started this thread saying that you had already bought a Canon and now want to upgrade...just seems a bit odd.
