Ive searched and searched and it appears nobody is holding the same stuff in a bag that I am. Im probably most interested in a backpack style thing and heres what I have to carry. 20d (with grip later), (possibly attached) 70-200 2.8 L lens, 18-55 EFs lens, and probably a 50 1.8 in the future. Id also like a little room to grow (flash and what not). Does anyone know a bag that seems right for this? [No 500 dollar bags please. Im broke.]

thanks.

Lowepro Mini Trekker AW Camera Backpack

This is currently what i am using //www.tamrac.com/5275.htm it seems to do a good job and gives you room to grow and add to the collection of lenses etc. I curently have 300D, 70-200mm f/4, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 1.4x Extender, efs 18-55mm, 500mm preset f/8 Lens.

Heres the price from B&H //www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=168832&is=REG

I did consider the Mini Trekker pack before i bought the Expedidtion 5, as the Mini Trekker is very good, however it didn't have the space or extra room for all that i would be buying in the near future, plus the tamrac pack was $60 cheaper lol

I might be weird, but I would prefer a slightly smaller bag for everyday use and a separate one for extra stuff. Seems like some places do not allow too large of a bag. Example: Rooster going to Yankee stadium.

The MiniTrekker AW may be enough for what you have now plus a few lil extras.

I use a PhotoTrekker Classic for a 10D, 70-200L, a 17-40L, a 50, a 100-400L or a Big Ma, the Sony F717, Filters and spare Batteries for both, cards, remote, 2 quick releases, manuals etc. It's plenty big. I bought a separate weather cover.

The CompuTrekker AW is an excellent bag, very comfortable, but with a shallower compartment. I recommend this bag even if you don't lug a PowerBook.

I have tried several bags now. Many are too big, even for a growing collection of stuff, and many are too heavy.

You might want to consider the Lowepro Off Trail 2. It's a side/fanny pack that you don't have to take off to put the camera in and out. I have exactly the lenses you described, and the dRebel. I went out shooting with a bunch of DPC'ers on tuesday that all had backpacks. Whenever they needed to do anything, the backpack went on the ground, unzipped, and then changes made. I can do everything without removing the bag.

It has a waist belt and a shoulder strap.

The only negative is that there's isn't much room to grow. The backpacks hold a ton. But if you can limit what you carry, this has advantages.

And it was "only" $60. (You may be able to attach more stuff to the bag with the modular system Lowepro offers for these belt-type bags.)

Off Trail 2

Oops--Correction! The off-trail1 is the smaller bag. You want the Off-trail 2. Corrected above.

I have a similar need for space and I got the Lowe Computrekker AW or whatever it's called. I do occasionally travel with a laptop, so it's nice to have the space for it, but the main reason I got it over the comparable Trekker bag is the additional padding on the shoulder straps and harness. The bag is quite comfortable to wear even when it's fully loaded with camera gear and laptop (~30lb of stuff).

I use the Lowepro Orion AW. It holds the camera + normal zoom and compact telephoto zoom, a largish flash, with space for 1 or 2 extra lenses. And it has built-in backpack for your lunch. Great for 1-day hikes.

If you want something reasonably cheap, strong and small I recommend the Micro Trekker 100 - love this bag and wouldn't swap it for any other!
As you can see from the photo I have a 70-200 2.8 IS which just fits in attached to the camera, plus plenty of room for extra lenses and stuff.

hey Hsteq!

Also check out:

//lowepro.com/pages/series/dryzone/dzone100.htm

It is a great workhorse that has plenty of room for expansion!
I've had the smaller versions...microtrekker, etc and you certainly eventually outgrow those if you gather up more goodies!

I use that same backpack ... the Tamrac Expedition 5. I carry my 20D with Canon 28-135mm IS attached, Canon 70-200mm F4 + 1.4X extender, Sigma 15-30mm, Canon 50mm F1.4, Macro 105mm F2.8 macro, Canon 550EX flash, ST-E2 wireless transmitter, X drive. I don't have a battery grip yet, but I can see how I'll manage to make it fit. It's also small enough that it looks like a regular (non photography) back pack.

Hey Mazer (or anyone else)...off topic:

I have the Tamrac Expedition 7:

This bag holds all my gear when I want it to and that includes:

Canon 10D w/ battery grip
Canon 70-200 f/2.8 w/ lens hood
Canon 24-70 f/2.8 w/ lens hood
Canon 50mm f/1.8
Sigma 12-24
Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro w/ lens hood
Canon 550ex AND 420ex flash
Canon ST-E2 Remote Transmitter
Canon 1.4x TC
Two Sto-fen Omnibounce covers
My light meter
My filters
My portable hard drive
Extra batteries
Pen and Notepad
Digital Voice Recorder
Tripod straps on the back nicely also...

Don't buy a big that fits what you have now. Give yourself a little room to expand.

Not to be picky, but the correct term is: badasser

LOL

I'll second the LowePro CompuTrekker AW bag if you often have a laptop. I have in it

300D+battery grip
17-40L
50/1.4
100/2.8 macro
70-200 IS
1.4x extender
25mm extension tube
550EX flash
tabletop tripod
15" Powerbook
plus batteries, chargers, cleaners, lens covers, lens hoods, a filter wallet

It's a workhorse. The build-quality is very high, and the stitching seems strong given how much weight it carries.

I use it for some wildlife shots. cost me $200 NZD, however a auto focus lens of the same focal length would have cost me over 2k NZD so went budget till i can afford a good Af lens.

I think Im Probably gonna get this one. //www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=NavBar&A=getItemDetail&Q=&sku=199512&is=REG&si=spec#goto_itemInfo

Looks like I can stuff my 20d, 70-200 2.8 and 18-55 efs kit lens in there. Do you guys think itll be able to fit a battery grip attached to the cam as well? I dont have the grip yet. Maybe for the holidays.
