Tomorrow night, May 24, I will be presenting a program to the Channel City Camera Club. The theme of my program will be online resources for photo sharing, feedback and competitions. The first thing on my agenda for the presentation will be an introduction to DPChallenge.

I'm hoping to encourage our members to become engaged at DPC. I'll be offering a raffle to pay one member's registration for a year.

I'll be showing them around the site, too, and was hoping to get some prospective welcomes to folks who might consider getting involved here. Perhaps some of you would be willing to share a welcome and a story about the value of your involvement here.

And... while you're at it, take a look at the club Images of the Month Gallery. These are among the highest scoring images from the last several month's of our juried exhibitions (scored by two professional photographers and one club member each month).

Thank you SO much, Bill. Just what the site needs. Any one of these photographers would be a welcome addition to DPC.

What do you need us to do, testimonial-wise?

ETA: When I first joined DPC, I didn't know anything about photography, even though I'd taken thousands of pictures. But between the challenges, the incredibly helpful (and inspiring) fellow members, and the camaraderie, I began what would eventually become a career in photography. Though said career has really eaten into my time on DPC, it is still my go to place for trying new things, getting answers to technique/equipment/and general photography questions. And of course, chasing that virtual ribbon :)

You have some excellent practitioners there, Bill. I look forward to welcoming them with open arms.

Speaking for myself, I'd moved cross-continent and basically didn't know anyone on Cape Cod when I found DPC, so it gave me a place to talk photography and hang out. That was 12 years ago, and the place has meant the world to me. It's quite a bit less active in the forums than it used to be, but new people "talking photography" is just what we need. At our best we're an actively social community.

Wow, that is quite the robust camera club! I wish we had something like that in my area. I keep trying to get some momentum going but my job gets in the way and there are only so many hours in a day. Lovely images and a great resource for photography enthusiasts in the SB area! Thanks for sharing and I hope some of your members join DPC too.

If they start to enter challenges, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stress the great importance of reading and UNDERSTANDING the rules...I am so sick of seeing hot new talent come along, blow everyone out of the water their first outing, then get DQ'd and vanish from sight.

Dear CCCC,

here at dpchallenge you can be yourself. there are a diversity of viewpoints here. Landscapes, studio shots, product shots, all score well here. But if you want to experiment, try something a little crazy, there are those of us who appreciate that as well. You won't get a high score, but you will get comments and other kinds of appreciation.

DPChallenge is a great place to practice, learn, and improve. I'm a software developer by profession, and photography helps me exercise my creative side. There are many world-class talent photographers who participate on dpc, and who are willing to share their knowledge, advice, and experience with fellow members - yes, even those who are just beginners.

Another thing I like about dpc is the diversity of geographic location - most of our members are from the United States & Canada, but we also have members from France, Singapore, South Africa, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, and - given the wide spread geographics, I'm sure I've left someone out.

If you want an on-line site with great people, that encourages you to take pictures on a regular basis (not just when you have time), that encourages you to try new things, and that will improve your photography skills, dpchallege is a great choice. We'd love to see your work.

On other thing, and I think it's critical, is that DPC is the only online photo challenge that requires you shoot for each challenge. So you have one week (or one month in the case of the FS), to find out what the challenge is, come up with an idea, execute it, process it, and submit it. It's an INCREDIBLY effective way to get (and keep) your juices flowing, and get much more efficient at workflow. Yes, it is much more work that just digging into your existing files for the perfect image, but IMO, it's totally worth it.

I totally agree with Johanna.

THIS site is why I do anything good with photography.

I started... with much timidity.

I knew... nothing.

And then... I started evaluating the images in each challenge.

And then... I started evaluating EVERY image I saw... on the billboards... in the mall...

Everywhere.

I almost went crazy. (some might disagree with "almost")

I commented on images... as I saw them... and felt awkward.

I didn't know anything... so... I was timid.

And then... I began to know... after looking everywhere... what I wanted to see in an image.

It wasn't right or wrong... it was just... ME!!

I found ME!!

And I grew.

And... I still grow.

Thank you, DPC.

Welcome, newbies to DPC!!! I'm glad that you're here.

I can't wait to learn from you... no matter where you are in the Photography Skill Thang. :D

I learn from every image. "Good" or "not so good"... they all teach me something... if I take the time to learn.

Hello! Channel City Camera Club! One of my favorite things about this site is building a portfolio of Favorites. The talent here is amazing. You can build your own portfolio of you work here, easy to do & easy to manage. I recommend DPC as a good place to hang out & learn.

What I love about DPC is...

1- When I first got here, I knew almost nothing about photography. BUT... while I commented on others' photographs, I learned a bunch about what I liked about photographs... and why I like it. I learned from others' comments on my images. I grew to have a "style" of my own.

2- DPC is for every level of photography. It's sort of like golf.
You have your own "average". And, I call an image a success, if I beat my average... no matter how my average compares to the BIG PHOTOGRAPHERS. I am competing against myself... no matter where I fall in the finish of the group.

3- The people on DPC will help me with... well... with anything. I ask, they help if they can. No matter the topic. It's amazing!
