Can someone please give me some recommendations on a w/a for the DSCF717? Ive can get my hands on a Sony VCLMHG07A (0.7x) for a fairly cheap price? has anyone had experience with this lens? IS it good?

What other lens' should I look at?

Also, if I put a 2x teleconverter on the camera, does it give it a psuedo 10x optical zoom?

SOrry, im not very good with lens & converters.

PS: Oh, and if anyone has good recommendations on filters, i'd love to hear them too :)

Thanks guys

I bought a 81c warming filter for my 707 and it does wonders for portraits and sunsets. Helped get me first place for the song challenge. Plus I use a 72mm UV, polarizing, sepia and ND filter that fits my 35mm but I have converters for my sony. All of them are good except I dont use the sepia too much cause photoshop does that for me. Hope that helps.

thanks heaps. I really have very little idea about filters and the like. does it affect the autofocus ability of the camera?

a mate of mine has a fuji 602, and with a UV on, the autofocus took longer and was slightly off occasionally

circuit city carries add on lens and filters for the sonys.. I have recently found a 2x, 3x, and .7xWA lens for my sony there.. also I picked up a +10 and +7 closeup filter along with a polerizing and UV filter... go by there and check it out! all of these products seem to work great! or you can always try ebay.. there is tons of lens and other goodies on sale there

i would go with the VCLMHG07A, I have one and the quality of the pics is nice...

but I would not buy a 3x teleconverter....stick with one thats between a 1.4 or a 1.7x.

anyone saying they have a 3x is using a very thin line of deception to "sell" you on the product. Even some 2x's are not a true 2x, but a 1.7x "claiming 2x capabilities....

there are very many camera stores that are rip off's or scams...so be carefull

I am using a Raynox DCR-1850Pro 1.85x teleconverter and I have been happy with it. The one drawback is that it works best with the aperture set to between F5.6 and F8 to minimize chromatic distortions. I used it for my 'Newyears at the Needle' shot and it worked just fine. I haven't yet purchased a wide angle lens but I will most likely get the VCL-MHG07A from Sony. I found it for $114.95 from B&H which is $35 less than Sony's prices. I wish I had gotten the wide angle lens first because I know now that I would use it much more then the teleconverter.
