We have a local Juried Art Show coming up at the end of the year and submissions are due in a month. Having never really done this I have no idea what to choose. The show is open to all art forms and there is no theme so anything goes. These are what I want to pick from and I can send up to three images for consideration.

eta: I forgot these two.

Joshua, if I had to pick three, I'd go with 1, 4, and 7.

...but. One thing I do if I'm entering something into a juried show is doing a little bit of research on the juror/jurors and seeing what kind of style of photos they shoot. It helps me narrow down my choices to submit.

4 & 9

Joshua I generally *try* to keep a theme and/or visual cues (subjects in the frame, color, shapes, action) connecting each art piece to each other to present a cohesive whole. Applying that method of madness to the choices here I would suggest:

#1 The bold reds of the composition instantly grabs the attention. The wings of the woman and the curvature of the fabric curves and bends much like the shape of the tulips in #4

#4 has fantastic B&W tones and great detail. The action of the flowers curve and bending could act as a subtle lead into the passage of time shown by movement of the hands of the clock and the curvature of the flowers also would be a nod to the curvature of the clock. So that then leads to:

#9 The clock represents the passage of time and you have a lot of interesting shapes, textures and colors. Not to mention there are the flowers which is a nod to the main subject in #4

Just my two cents.

Good Luck in the Art Show Joshua!

1, 2 4, 7 and 9 are my favourites of the lot.

If pushed to choose 3 I would probably go with 1, 2 and 4

cuttooth,

the juror seems to do mostly mixed medium I would guess. Not something I particularly like (her work) but I really just want to submit something that I feel encapsulates myself as an artist and something that will stand out.

I agree with this sentiment from Cuttooth.

To be frank, I am not a fan of the painting effect on many of these with the exception of the grungy tulip shots.
4,5,7 would be my immediate choices.

1, 4 and 9 are my choices. 14 is a contender too...

I like 1, 4, and 9 as well; but also like 13 and 14.

Wow, what a nice collection. I am partial to 4, 9, 13. 9&13 have a great mixed media feel to me.

Good luck.

4, 7, 9 and particularly 13 and 14. 13 is my favourite out of all of them.

Ok so I think I will use these

Now the question is in how to present them.

I think I want a nice square canvas of the first one, probably 20x20. Should I do 16x24 canvases of the others or Matt and frame them? What size? I have the third one in my house printed at 11x14 in a frame that's probably 14x20 and it looks really good that size.

For me, like Marion and many others it's lucky 13 and a most thought provoking image.

I do love 13 but I don't know what I would eliminate to use that one. The first is one of my favorites as is the tree so it would have to be the flowers and that is perhaps my best black and white image to date.

Your call Joshua and yes, a tough decision (but that's a good thing right?) For me #1 should give way to #13

. .

IMO Joshua, you are at your best with work like this. I especially like 10 I know nothing of juried art shows, though. Nevertheless, I wish you the best of good luck!

the last two are the best, IMHO. but keep in mind I'm biased against landscapes.

I'm afraid I agree totally with posthumous: those last two, and I like them loads. Hope this isn't the kiss of death.

These two for me.

Yes 13 is above and beyond IMHO.

13 for sure, 10 next and if you're sending three then 6 or 14.

But I've noticed you say you already picked so go with your heart. As to framing, I think you are the best judge as we can't see them printed large.

Ok thank you all.

Will be it. I have a framed print of the last two ready to go and I think I will do a canvas of the first. Now to see if any are accepted and how it goes. Submissions are due September 15th, notifications are received around the beginning of October and the show is in November. I will let you know how it goes. All three have names from Poe, so I think that works for me. Thanks for all the input.
