So often I sit around and think to myself... "I wish I was a member. Then I would be cool." Then I remember that there is no point really and I don't have the camera for it, and I don't have time to vote on all the open challenge, much less both challeneges. So then I don't worry about it anymore.
But!
What if there was a non-member only challenge, and the first, second, and third place winner all recieved a free one month membership? I think that would be pretty neat for a prize, neh? Not to mention the fact that once they've tried it out, they are more likely to subscribe.
Just a thought. And please don't think that I have any selfish ambitions for this one; I'm well aware that I'm simply not that good. Just thought it would be a neat idea.

Then what benefits would members have? The cool bonus of no real prizes? :)

In theory this challenge would be restricted only to those people not holding memberships.
In my mind the way it works is that that week there would be 3 challenges: Members, non-members, and open. Similar to how we have the occassional speed challenge.

Thats my point. If you can have 2 challenges as a non-member, what would be the incentive to sign up for a members account?

Oh, I see. Sorry. I misunderstood.
The way I imagined it this would only be a special challenge that happens every couple of months. And also, once those top 3 have had the experience of being a member, I would think they are more likely to sign up for a member account.
But I do understand what you're saying, and it is a valid point against what I'm suggesting.

What's the big deal, the cost of becoming a member is the same as a magazine subscription.
I agree with Konador, people who are paying to support the site should'nt be thrown out of any challenge.

| So don't give em their own challenge. How about if you win the open challenge then you get one month as a member. I haven't looked up how many of the winners are already members, but it seems like a lot of the good photographers already are so I doubt this would happen every week. Also, giving a one month tease might just get em hooked ;P |
