Now that stopped motion is over, here are some of my Ryder Cup pics. Mostly just cropped and resized, haven't had time to play around with them yet.

Thanks, Bren (and a bump for different time zones). :-)

Sergio1 and monty1 my favorites. Very sharp and clear photos from that olympus camera.
And what an absolute thrashing the yanks got :)

Even a quick glance at the thumbs shows these are great compositionally, with good timing in the action shots and expressive poses by the subjects in the candids -- excellent work. The very first longshot looks like it might be tilted?

I'm sending a link to my friend who's way more into golf than I am : )

Thanks, Marbo - these photos were taken with a borrowed 300D (and Sigma EX 70-200 f/2.8), not my olympus.

And I'm not sure thrashing is a strong enough word! You'll note there are a lot more pics of Team Europe than USA...that's because Team USA played only 9-holes during this practice round (that is except for Phil Mickelson who did not show-up at all that day)- apparently they didn't feel the need to practice on the very difficult greens at Oakland Hills (or to entertain the 40,000 people that showed up to watch them). Team Europe played a full 18, and spent a lot of time hitting extra putts/chips/bunker shots on each hole. It was not too surprising to me that Europe won (though I was surprised at how easily they did so).

Yep. Nobody could believe they were done. People waited around the 10th tee for over 1.5 hours for Team USA to come out of the clubhouse and finish practicing...they did not do so, and worse yet, they never sent word out to the marshals on the course, so people wasted their day waiting for nothing. Their day and $50/ticket. Left many people somewhat disgusted.

Thanks for the comments on the pics. You're right about the first shot being tilted. And many of them could use some contrast/color adjustment since they were shot mid-day in very harsh sunlight. I took about 250 shots and am still wading through them as time permits.

Nope - camera stayed dry.

The camera is my brother's so had someone tried to throw it in a lake, I would've helped. :-)

What an awesome opportunity. You did good!

Matt,

I work as a newspaper editor and as such I see a lot of sports photos from professionals. Several of your shots (Sergio's bunker shot in particular) are as good as any the media pros took during the Rider Cup. I also particularly like the shot of the balls on the green as the players approach. Great job!

How sad, that given the opportunity, you would throw your poor brother's camera into the lake. I'm sure he worked hard to be able to afford such a nice camera and then to be generous enough to loan it to his brother. What a nice brother he must be.............. :-)

Otherwise - great shots - must have been the camera...

Clay - Thanks!

Oldpucker - It was not the camera....at least not until I fixed it. All the pictures came out solid black 'til I smacked the camera a few times and shook it really hard for a minute or two. After that it worked great (I reckon there are easier ways to remove a lens cap - but none quite so fun).
