The last two entries in the team sports challenge.

One is a blank grey square, intentionally entered to see what happened to it - yeah, whatever *yawn*.

The other is a sunset, which I know Inede entered in error.

However ..... One of these got 7x 10's, and the other 9x 10's

Anyone got an explantion for this other that a) multiple identities, or b) Idiots voting?

I just find it disappointing that there are so many people who would rather ruin the spirit of this place than support it.

With the sunset sure, some people may have loved it and not care at all about the challenge topic. But a grey square? Do grow up!

Edit: Typo in title obviously - can't alter now - oops, some kind sole on the SC has edited, thank you anonymous saviour!

I was waiting for someone to start this thread. I will never complain about "trollers" again, because there was some obvious trolling done here. Gabriel even states on her picture that she wanted to see how "nothing" would do in this challenge.

I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who wondered about 'fake' id's.

10s and 1s I kinda expected but the thinking voter I would have thought is the 6 5 and 4s and there are those as well!

When, oh when, will koala bear wrestling be considered a 'real' sport?

You elitists with your balls and sticks...although I personally wouldn't have zoomed in so far on that photo.

I didn't vote, but perhaps those people who gave the square a 10 were trying to ruin the chance of it getting the coveted brown ribbon.

Missed that thread Inede.

My post there wasn't about the entries ... it was about idiots who think a grey square in a challenge about team sports should get a 10. I'd put money on the same idiots voting 1's for the top shots as well.

It's the one problem with being anonymous on the interweb ..... the children can play up as the adults aren't watching .... check out something like IRC for a prime example.

Inede, I got your PM after I left my comment, and you shouldn't feel "stupid" at all. I am wondering, however, how everyone that gave you and the other photo way above average scores feel.

I didn't enter or vote on the challenge but if I had I believe that shot would have been my only ten. I don't have a complicated voting system. I rank shots by how much I like them and I liked this one very much for the statement it was making and the reaction I had when viewing it. I have the right to vote how I choose. Besides, my single vote really doesn't count much anyway... :)

I might have tried titling it "Stormy Iditarod: Lead Dog's View" : )

dumb question I am sure but what is a troller?
09/22/2004 01:58:51 AM · #16
A troller or troll is someone who is engaged in the act of trolling. Stirring up trouble for the sake of causing chaos, disorder, unrest. Usually a troll will enter a discussion drop a few inflammatory comments then abandon the discussion as they usually have no interest in the topic but exist solely to cause trouble.

These two entries also prove that the system works in spite of some capricious voters.

Why was it not DQ ed ?
I didn't enter this challenge or vote, but if I had I would have requested a DQ on what appeared to be a "P... Take " it belittles all the hard work many have gone through to take some magical pictures
I eagerly await his reasons for posting.
Paul.
Congrats to all those who entered, some great shots, even the sunset pic.

Having looked through the votes and comments now, I think the complainers are wrong. As a shot of it's type, 'competition' is very very effectively done. Think of this: it isn't a standard 4x3 aspect ratio; the grey has been perfectly matched to the site background; it is a photograph of nothing - rather than any old shot darkened completely and then lightened to the right shade. It shows imagination, thought, and care in execution.

It deals with ideas and concepts that are almost completely out of place here - and a challenge is the only sensible way to display it on the site. Had it been put into a portfolio and a thread linked to it I think it could only have struggled to 100 views or so - as of right now it has 1400 or so.

I can't believe that those who commented along the lines of 'stop wasting my time' actually spent any time at all thinking about it - whilst it was obviously going to be voted down massively, there is certainly more to it than the Burt Reynolds blank black 4x3 shot. Intellectually, the ideas it provokes may hold little interest for a vast majority of this site's competitors, but there is equally no need for an outright dismissal of the thought and ideas behind the shot.

I can absolutely agree with any vote it recieved - all the way through the range, from leaving room in one's own scale for other shots to rank above it, to acknowledgment of a little intrigue, to outright dislike, and the sliding scale in between. Interesting to note that it recieved at least one vote at each score.

But what it isn't, is wasting anyone's time.

I would not worry too much about the vote I received on this picture.
It was made on purpose to bring some unusual reactions about something unusual.

I find it perfectly normal that some votes are unusual on this one.
Don't worry, no harm had been done to others, it get the brown.

Regarding this shot, I am personnally satisfied by reactions. They are quite interesting to me.

I agree with e301....also...out of the box is an accepted form of expression here...I do alot of that type of Photo here at DPC...I may not score real high but it is fun... and that is one of the reasons why I am here...continuing to strive, and get better in my Digital Skills.

For the next time it could be a usefull tip. If you have windows 98SE or more recent, you can right click on any photo you have on your computer and select open with, Internet explorer and you'll see your photo in a web broser window with the actual color it'll have once on the net.

Sorry that you can enter that image in the master challenge, it's beautifull!

I recieved a comment earlier this week, and when I checked the person out, it was a senior lady, which I had never submitted a shot...but her "favorites" (4 or 5 of them) were all from the same area, all in the same age bracket and only 1 of them had submitted any photos...

the way I figured it, is that it's kind of a "let's all enroll and vote for our pal" type of thing...

Democracy!
