From this date forward, I will not be leaving a "commenting only" message after my comment on your photo.

If you receive a vote that you think does not agree with my comment's "glowing remark",or if you receive a higher vote than you think you deserve after I leave a suggestion on your image, please do not message me and ask me why, after I gave you said "glowing remark" did I leave you that low vote... or ask why I gave you a 10 when I suggested what you could do to make your image better in my opinion.

I will not leave you a low vote if I like your image. I will not leave you a high vote if I don't.

It's possible that I commented earlier... and voted later... or that I didn't vote at all.

I have tried to resolve this issue in many ways in the past and it still seems to backfire on me... in forum posts, and in private messages... over and over... even by the same people.

So... from now on... this is what I'm doing:

I may leave a comment.

I may, or may not, vote.

If you are unhappy with my comment, it is fine to message me about my comment.

But, if you are unhappy with what vote you think I've given you... whether I've stated the vote or if you've assumed that vote, please do not message me about it, for I will post it on this thread.
Edited to stop the flow of people who have already clicked the "Report Post" button on my post here that Site Council has told me... in only 14 hours!

Really, people? You need to get a life!

How can some folks find SO MUCH to complain about?! Life is good, folks... try to see it that way... instead of finding things to complain about other people about. Well... unless you're perfectly flawless, then please... carry on. I can certainly learn from that.

Thank you for participating in DPC as you are!

Please allow me to participate as I like... which MIGHT mean that I leave a comment but I don't vote... OR it might mean that I vote and don't comment. OR... I might do... BOTH!

Please feel free to comment and/or vote as you like.

That's what the world is made of... individual thinkers.

I'd hate to see a gallery of images here on DPC if we all thought alike! What a BORING gallery that would be!

Life is good... even when it's not.

:D

Enjoy it ALL!!!

I always though that was a very elegant note.

Unrelated, and I will delete if inappropriate, welcome to the 6Dclub

Lydia,

You are one of the masters of the site with bucketload of blues and others. I've just got a numeric comment from you, but even without further explanation that gave me a reference where a master ranked what I entered.

I am pretty sure that your way of leaving feedback on many entries is highly valuable for most of the participants! Too bad for those who cannot appreciate it...

Be careful or they will put you in time out again. Don't push your luck. :p

I just wanted to say that I like the "commenting only" message, and I always appreciate your comments Lydia.

I just recieved a comment from you which doesn't match the corosponding score, could you please explain your thinking?? :P JKS JKS!!!

Lydia -- I always appreciate your comments -- whether they are accompanied by a vote or not. I think dropping the "commenting only" is probably a good idea. You should be able to vote and comment how you like, and, ideally, you should not have to feel obligated to defend it.

To the people that stare at the screen constantly hitting the Update button, dissecting every vote and trying to match votes with comments (this sometimes includes me BTW), consider stepping away from the computer and finding a more entertaining and/or more productive use of your time (e.g., going out and taking some pictures).

I've just received a vote, without a comment, so from now onwards I am going to assume all votes without comments came from Lydia, and contact her about the badness thereof.

I'll make a standard one to copy&paste: Why, Lydia, did you mark my image down, Lydia, as I know from your post, Lydia that you had more time, Lydia, to peruse the magnificent qualities of aforementioned, Lydia, because, Lydia, you refrained from leaving one of your charming remarks, Lydia.

If that doesn't make her return to her old and wonderful ways, nothing will.

Ah Lydia, I got last night such a nice comment from you and wish you had affixed a mark with it. Or did you? My score dropped that moment and I wish I knew if you participated or not in the skinny challenge to attribute the score to you. Or not!

I am JUST KIDDING of course. . I don't really look at my score during the voting probably because it's so damn predictable in my case at least. I don't get these sophisticated charts that you people use to look at every mark that you get after a comment , I seldom look at the final chart mostly because in my case at least it's very predictable and looks like it's the same always - a sprinkle of every possible mark forming sometimes a more interesting zigzagging!

There is one thing to fix after all the night discussion: people shall vote more. It's uncanny that there are now sometimes less votes than entries. Seems like we lose interest in our work.

Indeed! I blame it on FB and Flickr - where people post images and just wait for others to like and comment. Seems like many folks have forgotten that this is a give-and-get sorta site :(

Everyone likes to enter Challenges.
Everyone likes to receive votes on their entries.
Everyone likes to receive comments on their entries.

So, if everyone completed this trio of tasks, everyone would be happier.

And, of course, everyone can become a 'baghead' if everyone's comments need to be anonymous during voting.

We are all "Everyone".

My philosophy for the day.
:)

IMO - PM'ing someone about their comment / vote while a challenge is still in voting is highly suspect behavior. Voting is supposed to be without knowing who the photographer is. If you PM someone about their comment on your picture, you've just (more than likely) told them who the photographer is. Perhaps it is the only comment they've left. Perhaps the only one like it.
A comment is, by definition, one person's opinion - to which they have complete rights, regardless of how stupid (or brilliant) you may think it to be.
Lydia, your comments are always appreciated. Thank you.

Perhaps all who comment should be kept anonymous until voting is over. Although, it is very nice to see a comment from someone you respect during voting.

Okay folks... You can all stop reporting my post to Site Council now. They've contacted me and I have edited my original post to suit you.

I hope you will now go out and find something fun to do that will make you enjoy life more!

They really reported you? Really? Sad. Very sad.

We had a very articulate member of parliament in RSA in the 1930's, who said of parliament: "half of the people here are asses" and when forced to retract the statement said "half of the people here are not asses". That is the exact type of retraction your comment needs.

+1

FWIW both the reports and the correction were/are valid, and not an issue any more.

Oh my. I love your comments Lydia. (And I have just changed my preferences to 'anonymous' during voting. I frankly don't track how my vote correlates to comments, and I guess I did not realize how closely others did.)

Drat. I've missed the DPC fun. I always come too late to these threads and miss the interesting beginnings. We need an outtakes thread thread! :)

Place a human face-to-face, they'll use it to communicate effectively.
Give a human anonymity, they'll use it to bemoan, whine and cause others grief.

Well, that was dull. People reported that?? Obviously DPC is getting too tame if this is the current bicker topic.

What ever happened to guns and religion? Or religious guns? *sigh*

I've been busy with work.

ETA: To whoever reported that - I cannot imagine why you would have done so, but surely you could find something more productive to do?

im sure they could cory, but haters gonna hate.

it's too bad you can't report a report...get the person who did so put into 48h forum access lockdown.
there's nothing offensive there in the post, and is just stating that using PMs to harass lydia for perceived slights will be publicized by her and not taken silently as they are unsolicited and can be erroneously attributed.

if people have a problem with that, the solution is "don't send her messages of that nature", not "lets get the rest of dpc riled up and into a mob-like state"
