Hello my trusty go-to guys,

I'm about to buy a Wacom tablet, but I am unsure what size to get. I won't be doing any drawing, only photo editing. I am currently using (or learning to use, I should say) Photoshop and Lightroom on an ancient 13-inch MacBook, so I understand that a small tablet will be fine for now. It is however with a heavy hearth I finally admit that, as much as I love my tiny white MacBook, it's glory days have passed! I'm planning on upgrading to a 21 or 27 inch iMac later this year. I don't what to buy a medium tablet if I can avoid it. Not now, and I definitely do not want to replace a small one later.

So, my question is: Will the small tablet do on a 21/27 screen, or should I (stop being a tight-ass and) just get a medium one? I have never used tablets before so I don't really know if combining a large screen and a small tablet is a bad idea. Advice/experiences/thought/guesses, anyone? I'll take them all! :)

Cheers,
Arna Marie

If you can squeeze the medium tablet out of your budget I would do it. I have the medium tablet and couldn't imagine using the smaller version. Plus it has more options :)

For photo editing, you don't need much tablet. Small has always been fine for me.

Be sure to get one with a memory card slot if you plan to put many photos in it at full size.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy 7" for my Wifey a few months ago and she loves it. She lets me use it once in a while, and it looks and works good.
We got it through "1 Sale" on line and it was under $200.

Hi Ann,

thanks for the reply. What size is your computer/laptop screen? I just read in another forum that a small tablet may be fiddly if you have a large screen. Do you use precision mode or something similar to edit small details?

Hi,

I probably should have specified the topic a bit more :) I'm planning on getting one a graphics tablet, not a tablet computer (or whatever they are called). But thanks for answering my thread :)

Small Wacom is fine for photo editing, regardless of the screen size. Anything that requires fine detail movement, you are magnifying on screen anyway...

small will do the job - medium is luxurious.

Hi, I have a 27 iMac and I am using a Wacom Bamboo tablet CTH470 and it works great for me. Not sure I have yet missed a bigger tablet, but I have to say I am not a professional either.

For photo touch-up and masking the small tablet should be fine. Remember you'll need space to put it down when you're not using it. And if you do find you really need a larger one (if you start making "paintings") it's not that expensive to upgrade (unless you go all the way to a Cintiq) ...

If anything, I've found the medium size ones too large.

Go for the small one, I think you'll be fine with it.

Almost unanimous! Small tablet it is then :)

Thanks everyone!! Much appreciated!
