I am having difficulty in voting for some of the photos that I consider NOT to be self portraits. Any clarification would be helpful. TIA

I think the guidelines were pretty broad, although I agree that there are a couple that skate pretty close to not including anything of the photog.

Does a self-portrait necessarily have to be a picture of one’s outward appearance? I think it’s possible for a self-portrait to portray one’s personality, beliefs, etc. without actually containing their physical image.

As far as I'm concerned, none of these pictures should be disqualified, since the absence of an artist tells me a lot about them, almost as much as it would if they were actually in the picture. Maybe I'm just generous.

I agree I gave a lot of the sillouettes lower scores than normal, and my photo was one of the sillouettes! I'm the one reading the manual and my G2 is sitting on it's tripod.

But the good thing is after looking at all the photos, I picked up a lot about portraits this time around. There's nothing like comparing your conceptions of what you're doing with everyone elses and then seeing the results.

I think the sillouette idea is valid, but I also saw that's it's much harder to pull it off correctly. If I did it again, I wouldn't go the sillouette route.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I think your sillouette looks really good. Besides, it will only be there a week and then you can forget about it. I know cause I cringed everytime I looked at my badly lit unwashed apples next to all the professional looking photos. And now it's over and I can move on. Many of us are learning and I am eager to see how we improve over time.

You also have to select a camera from the Preferences page before you can submit a photograph.
