I don't know if this is the right place for this but I'm looking into getting a membership. I am interested in the Online Store, but I'm worried if my pictures aren't good enough (and people don't but them) then they will close the store. If my store does get closed, would I have to pay a new fee to open another store? Or would I even get a second chance? Are then any statistics on how much people make for profit? Any feedback would be appreciated. I looked through the User Agreement but couldn't seem to find these answers.

Your store would never be closed :) As for statistics, I'm afraid I don't have any.

As long as you are a paid member your store front would never close unless you do something that is illegal according to the Terms of Use.

Ben is too fast.

Well, the fact that my store would never shut down makes me feel better. Thanks for the quick replies.

Oh yeah, about how many pics on average would I be able to put up for sale. I know it probably depends on the size of the pictures. I saw that Ben had 124 some odd images for sale in his Prints. Do you get more for being on Council?

Hi Casey,

If you're joining this site to learn and become a better photographer, then I highly encourage you to become a member. If you're joining because you think you can make a lot of money selling photos, then you're probably going to be disappointed. Most people don't even sell a single photo, and of the ones that do, most will not even make enough to cover their membership fee. Some do, but those are the exceptions.

I don't want to discourage you at all since I believe that membership is well worth the money. I just want to set your expectations correctly. If anyone thinks I've misstated the profit potential, I'd love to hear your take on it.

I am currently using 9.7mb of space out of 10mb of portfolio space. The print files dont take up any room out of that 10, so technically there is no limit to how many prints you can put up. However, each print file must be associated with a file in your portfolio. These ones do take up space, but if you just submit a tiny 1px black square, you could fit millions in the 10mb you have. It would just mean people can't see your prints from dpchallenge.com, just dpcprints.com.

As for selling photos, the more you have up the more you sell! I've made a profit of $154.98 in about one and a half years, but the traffic is much more now than then the site first started.

As for joining just to make a profit...I don't plan to make any money actually. That was part of my concern with the online store. If I don't sell anything, I was worried I would not ever be able to sell anything on this site again. (In other words the store getting shut down) But, I know now that they would not shut down the store. I was curious in statistics because I thought, it is possible I could sell a few photos. And maybe make enough to at least cover the membership, that would be cool. If I never sell a single photo I would be just as happy to compete in the member challenges. What is the deal with the member only threads? Again, thanks for the replies.
