Seems rather a random challenge - how many members do we have in Mexico?

'Celebrate Mexican heritage this week by photographing .. [more] something from Mexican culture in celebration of Cinco De Mayo.'

What about Bastille Day, or Guy Fawke's Night, or Eistedfodd (sp?), or Oktoberfest, or Up Helly AA, or Fiesta, or Holi, or Diwali, or any number of festivals across the world? Just seems a bit strange for this particular festival to get a second airing.

It's also celebrated in the US, which happens to be where langdon is from. Whereas none of the ones you mentioned are. Not against getting some challenges from holidays outside the US, but I imagine the number of entries would be limited.

Edit, Oktoberfest is as well, that would be a good one to do.

On my crankier days, I think people like us Aussies should get discounts for the rather LARGE number of very American challenges.
We are left out so very often, it really isn't fair.

If you allow/want/encourage world participation and payments, it should reflect in the topics, too.

Really?

If people were to recommend challenges that better reflect their culture in advance of festive occasions, commemorations or otherwise, I'm sure they would be well received and they would happen. I can't really think of an example where it's been proposed and ignored.

I don't think it's very realistic to expect Langdon to keep an eye on worldwide holidays. Pitch it (your suggestions) and they will come.

In the meantime, grab a bottle of tequila: BINGO, Cinco de Mayo entry done.

I don't really mind either way. I'd have a go at a Diwali challenge or a Holi challenge even though I don't really come across anything remotely authentic to those festivals in my day to day life. I think I would just make my own interpretation of it... like Bohemka's suggestion of getting some tequila for the 5 de mayo thing.

I just like having somebody else push me into creating ideas. That's what I'm getting from my membership so far (although I only just joined, the other week.. lol)

Hopefully, with only 28 entries, this is the last we ever see of a Cinco de Mayo challenge.

Maybe this was the "ole college try." I agree with LN13, I hope to never see this challenge topic again.

Maybe next year it'll get 29 entries! It is on an upward trend.

Really, I tried this past fall to suggest a Fall/Spring Challenge for all my Aussie friends...thought I was covering all the bases there...

Truly make challenge suggestions...I'm amazed at what they pick up from me...(totally amazed!!!)

Oh and if you do one of those holidays that we American's don't know...please include links so we can find out...I know some of them but not all. I think Boxing Day would be another great one too...

Every year on December 26, I read about what Boxing Day is. And then I forget.

I'm not saying it's a bad topic. Just that bein' a 'mericun, it doesn't stick in my mind. I actually think it would be great to have other-country-centric challenges.

I agree and being cultural is a great thing!

I need something more to soak up to learn to get out of my comfort zone for shooting besides nature and learning about different cultures I think everyone around the world can be creative. It sure would take me out of the comfort zone box.

I love those ideas :-)) Great suggestions!

With all due respect I find this statement as totally counterproductive to worldwide participation.

Regarding the first Cinco de Mayo challenge.........have a look at where the blue ribbon entry came from....lol

Boxing Day? Bloody hell, I'm an Aussie and the only things we do on Boxing Day are eat leftovers, maybe have a barbie, or some people go to the dam skiing. Boxing day is for sleeping in and not doing a hell of a lot else.

Yeah. Awesome cultural photo opportunities for Boxing Day....if you want to see uncle Kevin passed out on the couch after the obligatory Boxing Day drinkies.
