Have to skip this one :( First lunar eclipse is on Sep 28, 2015 in the Netherlands, but I'm looking forward to see your photos!

Rotten weather.... the clouds will hide what would probably be a fabulous moon rise over the ocean.

The timing is perfect, the eclipse in full swing, a nice reddish full moon rising over the water during twilight just before 6pm *sigh*

Except we won't see ANY of it due to the thick clouds :-(

I'm in. Just got done taking some practice shots, so hopefully tomorrow night I'll be prepared and get something good.

Not sure why a 48 hour challenge still has 6 days left though.

Same. I'll be holding my hand across the lens for effect for my winning entry.

You've done it before :-).

As it is for almost all celestial "events", our forecast is for clouds with rain moving in tonight.

There will be four of these over the next year and a half. We should have Blood Moon I, II, II and IV.

Edit - oh, I just looked at the timing...I'm going to be asleep at 12:53am anyway (unless the dog has to pee).

Good viewing forecast for the West.

Shows poor for me in Oregon, and the weather forecast says clear Monday, clouds moving in at night, so I might not get to see it. Damn Oregon, it would have to start raining now after days of sun.

Is there anyone who can buy me a ticket for the US today?

I am going to give it a try assuming the clouds part and anything is viable. I will not be entering the challenge though, as I would need expert editing to do what I am planning. Here is a smippet from an email I sent to a friend.

I was originally going to shoot a wide angle (with something cool in the foreground) and then create a composite, but after reading a few web sites decided to just take a telephoto “close-up” every 10 minutes and then I can composite to any foreground I want later. The geometry of figuring out where the moon track was going to be relative to some foreground seemed too error prone and you only get one night to get it right.

I can not imagine that a frame filling blood moon will score very well with a dozen other frame filling blood moons. Would have loved to have had this expert editing so I could do something like tome did.

One of my favorite things to shoot is the moon.. however, due to the rain and snow..( I thought it was spring but I was wrong)

Looks like it will be missed in the midwestern states as well.. Doesn't stop me for trying though.. maybe I can get a shot of the moon being freaky through the clouds?

Altitude and azimuth of the moon at your location.

Star Walk app This will allow me to pre-plan the shoot.

Thanks for the hookup, Richard. I'm not sure if 3:07 AM is doable in my brain, however :-)

Would be a great view here but thunderstorms rolling in today and throughout the night. I was hoping it would be a clear sky :(

Eclipse + Thunderstorms = Potential for eclipse+lightning shot through gap in clouds. I'd be thrilled :-)

Well, I'm planning on it! A friend invited me to her astronomer friend's viewing party, by the water. It's going to be epic, if I can manage to stay awake...

So I'm torn: low ISO, small aperture, longer exposure? Or high ISO, wide aperture, short exposure? I've still to take a decent photo of the moon - it's brightness is very tricky to shoot.

You don't want a long exposure with the moon. It's actually moving a lot faster than you think, and you'll get blur.

It's gonna be ECLIPSED, hon; won't be that bright. You won't need DOF, so shoot one stop up from wide-open and bracket like crazy...
