I think either would be good choices. Might be good to go to the store and get both in your hands and see which one "feels" better to you. That's what I did when I was trying to decide which way to go. To me the Canon body and button layout felt better so went that way. Others think the Nikon feels better.

They're both good, and you'll be happy with whichever you buy. Go to the store, try them both out. If you don't have a strong preference after that, shop by price.

The Canon is slightly more then the Nikon, im not sure why. I just don't want to regret my purchase. I want excellent image quality.

That new Canon has an extraordinary sensor design and a lot of interesting capabilities. I'd be inclined in that direction even if I weren't already in Canon...

Why, oh why has no-one asked Toniann220 what she wants to do with the camera?

I see you do a lot of portrait work, usually full, 3/4 length or 1/2 length from what I see in your portfolio.

Have you considered the alternatives? I see that you want "excellent image quality" - in fact, there are some great options out there if excellent IQ is your desire (*COUGH* Fuji x100s *COUGH*)...

Seriously though, tell us what you want to do, and tell us why your current camera isn't making you happy.

Then, and only then, can we really advise you on the options out there, and the right choice is going to still be a personal thing, but we can steer you towards the right set of choices this way.

One of my friends on here Denise has a Canon ESO 7D and has had horrible problems. I think that she has returned it at least one time that I know of...possibly twice with no results. She much prefers her Canon EOS 40D over the 7D. You can send her a PM and I wish you would since I know she has the camera.

That being said...why aren't you looking at the Nikon D7100 (it wasn't out when I got my D7000). From what I've heard it's wonderful. And I will say that I love my D7000!!! Amazing difference from the D80. It looks like the D7000 has been discontinued with the D7100. Here is a good review that I found about D5300 vs D7100.

But as Cory said you need to fill us in as to what & why your looking to change your camera.

ETA: The point that he makes about being able to use the dials with out going to the menu is key for me. I don't ever "STOP" to look at my menu...I use the dials all the time while shooting.

We're talking about the 70D here, Janine: a whole new camera with a brand-new sensor. A completely different animal.

Afraid not - it's a fixed 23mm prime on APS-C, giving an effective 35mm f/2 - but it's stuck, and there's no changing it out (although there are now a wide and tele adapter (28/50mm).

The Nikon she mentioned is also Nikon's latest and greatest as well.

Thanks for all your response :) I really enjoy doing portraits and hope for one day to have a small business doing photo sessions working with (new borns , children , maternity , engagement) I currently have a sony a 230 10 mp with a 18-55 I never bought any other lens brava use I knew this wasn't the camera for me. I bought it 6 years ago and paid $700.00 for it at the time. I currently want to spend no more the $1,200.00 and prefer a 18-140 and a 50mm lens hoping to get a bundle deal but still not sure of what body to go for. Thanks in advance to all who are helpings me :)
