Happy Holidays to All:

I participated in a number of Basic Editing Open Challenges back in 2009 and am looking to get back into it in the new year. I remember there being two basic editing open challenges per week - is that still the case?

Please let me know as I see that the 4 current challenges all are advanced editing.

Thanks so much!

Almost everything has been going advanced, with a few expert thrown in, and even fewer minimal. I haven't seen much for basic in a while, which in my opinion, is a good thing.

Don't worry, advanced really isn't advanced. I just recently got 3rd place in an advanced challenge with less than 90 seconds of editing.

oddly... all my ribbons are basic editing...

and none of them are classic ribbon winners. and that's why takes too much time to get one... because they are pretty much unique.

just saying !

Thank you both - I definitely would have been scared off seeing "Advanced Editing" challenges only but just read through the challenge rules and think I'll be able to handle it after all - not to mention I'm here to learn so it will be a great experience.

Thanks again!

Yes, the term "advanced" does concern some folks, but it really is NOT that much different from basic. The good news is that if you edit within the basic ruleset, you'll likely NEVER break the editing rules in "advanced". And on the plus side, the more you participate and learn, the less you'll "fear" advanced. Maybe even start trying some new stuff :)

Just starting with a good well exposed image and possibly a good concept for the challenge entry counts for a lot.
Four of my top six images in challenges were edited with iPhoto and entered in "Advanced Editing" challenges. All four scored over 6.0. The other two were "Basic Editing" challenges.
The only penalty for under-editing per challenge rules is that your score may suffer somewhat. If you are very serious about chasing DPC ribbons, then you would probably learn the techniques for all the rule sets anyway.
For me, ribbons are not a priority. I just enjoy being part of the "gang" and getting feedback on how my photos are accepted by the voters.

Thank you all so much - I am going to try and jump back in and enter the Children's Toy V challenge.

One quick question: I wanted to add a new camera to my profile and I could not find it in the list. Does anyone know how I can add it? Do I need to contact anyone in particular?

Thanks and have a great day!

At the top of this page, hover the cursor over "My Home" and click the drop-down "Preferences" button to change things in your profile. Don't forget to click "Submit Changes" when you are done.
Congrats on the new gear.

If your camera does not appear in the list, send a ticket to the SC. From the main site menu, choose Help>Contact Us, and choose the Equipment Addition/Change category. Specify the manufacturer and model, and if you can a link to the manufacturer's page for that model (will give SC the specs without them having to search it).

Thanks kirbic and MelonMusketeer! Just sent an email asking the Site Council to add my new camera.

Talk soon!
