So, I FINALLY met someone from DPC in reality. Pedro and I met early in the morning in Times Square yesterday and spent a great day walking around the city snapping our shutters at the poor innocent tourists. I've uploaded some of my favorite shots from the day here and hopefully Peter will do the same when he gets back to Canada.

My goal for the day was to get better at candids. I sat in the midle of the traffic islands for about an hour and just shot everyone who came into my territory. As you can tell from many of the photos, I got caught a lot! I was also sitting in perhaps the most photographed spot in Times Square and I estimate that I am in nearly a hundred family tourist photos. Oh, the fond memories they will have of me!

I was also playing around with the photos a lot, trying different processing techniques, so some are a bit unnatural.

If a title pops into your head when you look at any of them let me know as I'm feeling a bit too tired after editing to name them all but I hate having them up there with just their file names.

It was a very spur of the moment thing. Peter found me online at about 4am and told me he was going to Times Square at 8am and I figured why not; sleep is overrated anyway.

Great shots, Jason. I left you some comments.

Thanks ButterflySis. Stupidly, I commented on your comments before it dawned on me that you would probably never see them since I left them as comments on my photos above your comments. :)

Your comments were really helpful and much appreciated. I'm gonna re-edit a bunch of stuff later and try some of your suggestions.

LOL, had to laugh at your second sentence ^ up there. It could be confusing. lol

Thanks for the replies. I went back and read them. Makeup Lady is freaky. Drag queens look better than she does! I really liked all of the shots. You've got some great candids. That's something I'd like to work on some day, too. Not enough hours in the day! Thanks for sharing these. Glad you guys had a fun day.

Jen

Excellent stuff Jason. Those shots of P shooting pigeons are wonderful - he should have one as his profile shot.

I'm jealous!!! Great shots, but I think Pedro needs a bigger lens! Especially since the pigeons are only a foot in front of him. Photographing pigeons.... uh-huh, riiiiight. ;-D

hahaha. somebody noticed. can't tell you what he was really photographing. ;)

I am jealous cause Pedro's lens is much bigger than mine. Hope he doesn't post any photos of me taking pictures of pigeons. I'll be embarassed.

Great candid shots! I know it's NYC, but does anyone ever say "don't take my picture" or get mad afterwards?

Also: what's with the bloody legs? Is that part of that street protest I see later with the woman in the cage?

Sure. Some people get mad but nobody would yell and me and Pedro cause we're so tough and macho with our big lenses. Seriously though, I figure anyone out there is going to appear in tons of photos they don't know about. At least I had the decency to make some of them look good. :) I didn't post any of the photos where people look really mad at me. They somehow don't seem "candid."

Yeah, that's part of the same protest about labor in china, appropriate for labor day here in the U.S. I cropped out the part where you can see that the woman is putting on the blood. It's more realistic that way. I was trying to wait for an ambulance to drive by in the distance.
