Well we are off tomorrow headed for Phoenix, AZ. Usually I have a destination all researched and all kinds of photo ops picked out...Not this time. So I'm hoping that you guys will chime in with all kinds of recommendations.

I'm pretty sure that we will do the Apache Trail, Botanical Gardens, Arboretum and Sedona for sure. Looking for "local food fair"...not the tourist stuff. And as usual we are up for a hike or two...

I've been to Sedona once but it was drive there (pretty) look around a bit, shop and drive back...surely there is more???

Looking forward to your recommendations...

BTW...anyone in the area???

Do you actually have a home, Janine? ;D

Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona might have some nice colors right now. Maybe too early, not sure. It's been ages since I've been there. Lots of hikes around there, regardless.

In Phoenix, I used to hike Camelback and Squaw Peak all the time. You don't have to get to the top. There are plenty of hikes in those parks. Papago Park also offers some nice, easily accessible hikes. Superstition Mountains to the east are very cool. There's a road that goes up South Mountain, which might be worth looking into. To get the ultra-super-saturated saguaro landscapes you should head down the 10 toward Tucson, but of course Phoenix has all the imagined desert landscape available.

It's been years since I've been there, and I know most of my favorite bars and restaurants are no more, so I can't really offer much there.

Have fun!

not sure where "this area is"...We are flying into Phoenix tomorrow and we will be there for 6 days...doing day trips as they come up.

and Scott...

Yes I do have a home...it's where my suitcases are...wink

My husband retired (notice only one of us did) last Sep and at that time our grandson was born and we agreed to take care of him for his first year (oh talk about the best choice we could have made...he is such a great little boy) so now he is in daycare and we are "free to roam the cabin world"...and that we are

ETA....in case you haven't noticed I love to travel and it doesn't take much to get me to go someplace at all!!!

Darn Cory...I thought you were in NM...no we're not driving this time like we did to New England. (I think that drive cured my husband for awhile...snort)...we are flying.

But we do go through there from time to time...so I'll plan on seeing you on one of those trips...

Superstition Mountains are an easy day trip and have some nice photo opportunities. Fun for some night photography as well if you stick around after dark.
