I just now noticed that I can no longer do the following when responding to a thread:

- Insert Images, hyperlink, thumbnails or a link to user profiles.

Did I somehow manage to screw things up.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

That is my test. It is working for me so I would guess it is on your end. Have you updated your OS, as in the much dreaded 8.1 update?

Try banging your head against a brick wall. That's what Windows 7 makes people do...

Ray, couple questions...
- what browser are you using?
- What happens when click, for instance, the "globe" icon to insert a hyperlink? Do you get a dialog ot enter the hyperlink?

Have been using Firefox for quite a while now and everything worked fine until recently.

When I click on the icon mentioned all I get is a #post in the browser bar... no dialog box.

I just now tried Explorer and all things work fine so I will assume it is a Firefox issue.

Any suggestions as to how I might fix the issue with Firefox as I much prefer it to Explorer.

Thanks for your help.

Ray

The function that is called when you click the icons is JavaScript. Did you recently add a script blocker to your Firefox? Are you able to use the other icons in the row, like B, or i?

A script blocker or other security setting in FF is my prime suspect.

Tried with Google Chrome and not working there either. I guess I will have to access DPC via IE whenever I intend to make use of these 4 icons to the right of the "strikeout selected text".

Not the most significant issue I have encountered, but a pain nonetheless. :O(

sounds like an addin or update might have been the problem, guessing you rarely check in chrome, so not likely they "broke" together.

i don't have firefox installed, but is there something in the advanced settings for defaults restore? failing that, i'd try removing the program from add/remove programs and then reinstall it right from IE

So, the bold, italic, etc work?

Yes they do. The"Insert Image" up to the "Insert Link to User Profile" don't.

Will piddle around with it some more and try to figure things out and if I can't I can always use IE.

If you write something in the body of the response window, highlight it, and then click the "Insert Image" "Insert Link to User Profile" icon, does that work?

Edit to add: The reason I ask, is because that will bypass the need for the popup window in some of the cases. It doesn't work for the "Insert Hyperlink" or "Insert Portfolio Photo" however. Also, after I've reread what you said, I'm really confused why the "Insert Image" is working for you. That should also pop up a window, and it calls the same JavaScript function as the "Insert Link to User Profile" button.

...I'm starting to confuse myself. :)

Crap, I was too slow in my edit. You said the "Insert Image" was working before, so I was going to have you try another button. See my previous post that I edited. I gotta shimmy off to school now, so my confusing responses will stop for a couple hours. I'm a computer programming student, so this is fun for me, but since I'm not done with school, it's confusing for everyone else. Sorry about that!

I use Firefox 1 and IE 6, and all of the buttons in the "Post Reply" dialog in the Forums seem to work normally, but in FF I can't use the "new" photo uploader — I have to use the "classic uploader" link.

Firefox 1? As in, version one?

Well, 1.0.3.0 ... Windows 2000 won't run anything newer than version 2 anyway ... ;-)

Surely the advantages can't outweigh the disadvantages. I can almost forgive the Firefox v1 (retro revival 'n shit), but my god, Windows 2000? That's 15 years old, not supported by Microsoft, and wasn't even a good operating system. I clung to XP until Microsoft stopped supporting it a few years ago, so I understand, to a point... You have to be having compatibility issues all the time. What keeps you running 2000 and Firefox v1?

ETA: I guess that's redundant, isn't it? :-)

Please, Luddlite™ ... ;-)

Actually, the computer is slightly newer -- it came with Windows Me, which I replaced with W2000 because it matched what I was using at work, and I sometimes worked from/at home.

Right now the main issue is that I can't afford a new computer, much less to update/upgrade all the software, so I keep using what works until it doesn't anymore. I waste too much time on a computer already, I don't need to be watching videos or playing games.

I have access to other computers which are newer if I really need to see or do something this one won't handle, though they are mostly Macs (the latest is a G5 tower). I also have a mini Mac "museum": Plus, SE, IIcx, Quadra 840, G3 desktop and laptops ...

My medical training has taught me to be cautious — I find that when you use cutting-edge technology you're apt to need a lot of bandages ...
