I got this message on Flickr.

Hi Bob,
I just came across your great photo here:
//www.flickr.com/photos/bmartuch417/2441799520/
with Lance Parrish.

I'm contacting you because I'm an editor on Wikipedia under the name Delaywaves, and I was wondering if you would change the license on your photo so we could use it there. Wikipedia only accepts content under certain licenses, and there are no images that we can find of Parrish, so his page lacks any photos of him.

You would have to change the photo's license to either Attribution Creative Commons or Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons for it to be uploaded. I'd completely understand if you just want to keep it the way it is, but it would really enhance Lance's article and would be a great addition to the site. Thanks!

Seems legit to me.

It's not like that's an image that would be stolen and sold as art, so I think the reason for the request also sounds reasonable.

Not an expert on that subject though, so perhaps someone with more experience can weigh in.

Lots of folks get contacts for image use on Flickr (both commercial and otherwise), so it wouldn't surprise me.
The article is lacking an image, but I didn't check to see if that user existed.
I'd agree with Cory on this one. Ultimately, though, it depends upon if you were ever intending to gain money from that photo. If you are, and think you can, you should not change the licensing. If that's not something you're wanting to pursue, it might be worth your time.

I know flickr is often trolled for photos of this sort since you can search by CC license. I've done it, myself, for many presentations where I needed visuals, so it seems plausible to me.

I'm pretty sure it's legit: that's EXACTLY how Wiki goes about getting people to release images to the Creative Commons.

Agree that it's legit. The fact that they contacted you to use it is already a big clue. Non-legitimate users just take it without asking.

I'm not sure why you have to change your license though. I've been contacted lots of times for permission to use one of my images and if I have no problem with it, I give them permission by email (except in a few cases I gave it to them in writing) and either send them a copy of the image or let them use a copy from the web site they saw my image on. You shouldn't have to change the license on your account on Flickr, which I assume, since I don't use Flickr, would then open it up for anyone else that wanted to use it without getting permission.

It's a Wikipedia thing. All images used by Wikipedia must use the creative commons license.

Found a few of my images hijacked here: //www.foxsaver.com/public/picture/1505557850 I thought I saw a few others thet looked familiar to me. How i found out i googled Libby Oles Dp Challenge, and fox saver came up. Oh and they vote them, or have likes, too. I complained but got nothing in return yet. Still waiting.

Send a DMCA takedown notice to their ISP. That will get it done.

Anyone else notice that the copyright watermark is somehow erased in their presentation? Clicking on the image, or the link, beings you to DPC; but the watermark is not visible there.
