What I am upto now (controversy free).

OK, so I've bitten, I've come back on the site on a trial basis and will try to be a little nicer and less controversial, but lets get this clear - it's on a trial basis only, if any of you bruise my delicate little ego with unfair comments then I am out of here again - OK, now I know none of you want that but as I said, this is only a trial period.

Anyway, for those who think I only pop in here once in awhile to poke sticks into the DPC hornets nest (which lets face it, I am prone to do sometimes) then this is actually a serious post.

First off, I no longer shoot professionally - I gave it up due to the lack of time spent with family over the past five years or so. I did however, have some pretty incredible times and made some great friends and travelled the length and breadth of this country as a result. But finally I hung up my pro-shooter hat earlier this year. I then went to Iceland with

Kevip6 and my good friend Jake to try and enjoy photography again and had pretty much the most amazing time of my life - covering over 4000km in 8 days, living in a 4x4 and dealing with -27c temperatures - it was much more than I ever expected it to be - it certainly has changed me and certain outlooks on life - not sure if my friends had the same experience, but - WOW - it was incredible.

So now I have sold some of my wedding lenses such as the 70-200 f2.8 and 85mm f1.2 and liquidated them into lenses I will use for enjoyment. You become a lot less snobbish about lenses when you don't need them to earn a living.

I've also got into astronomy in a big way and even dipped my toes into the world of astro-photography - which is REALLY tough going - massive kudos to those who can pull it off. My current `thing` is macro photography - which I find extremely demanding both creatively and physically!

I work for the local authority now, back in the world of IT and enjoying that immensely as well - a job where I can leave at night and don't have to worry about it until I walk back in the office the next morning - perfect! The pay is shit but I earned enough to live off from the photography to augment my salary & keep me comfy for the next few years. But I'm happy.

Still not married - which Angela is obviously getting annoyed about, but it's only been 15 years and I want to be sure "she is the one".. You know how it is eh guys? ;)

So now I might enter a few challenges, nothing serious as I don't want to ruin the fun I am having taking photos at the moment. I still think I have `the eye` for a pretty picture. Not sure if I can bring myself to stump up the $$$ for a membership, especially in light of my recent rants - but who knows. Basically if I can shoehorn and image into a challenge then I might have a crack at it.

So there you go - if yo are still reading at this point you are either bored, mad or looking for a fight.. I can't alleviate your boredom or mental health issues, but can certainly offer you out on the last one :)

For maximum site enjoment I highly recommend submitting photos you like, ignoring the scores, and turning off the Rant forum display of the front page.

Remember you can also participate in the side challenges -- it's just a tiny bit trickier to post pictures if they're hosted elsewhere. Also, if there's one you really want in on, you can always re-activate your Portfolio for just that month for $5 USD.

Cheers - sfalice - the macro was one of the lenses I "downgraded" to - its a great piece of glass - only had it a month or so and really enjoying it so far - tough to use out in the field though - f2.8 at such close distances is unbelievably narrow.

It's been good enjoying it again - shot 100s of weddings and towards the end the camera didn't come out of the bag other than on wedding days.

How do you mean? The Iceland stuff posted is a fraction of the total photos.. Have loads of reportage stuff - maybe I'll throw some stuff up online.

Always good to see great photogs return. Glad to see you're enjoying yourself once more. Doing something professionally or even hyper competitively sure can suck the fun out of things, I hear you on that.

This is possibly one of my favourite shots ever...

This was the first night we was there - far north of the Country - hit around -15c, nothing compared to what we endured later on.

I meant to say if you have a reportage of the entire trip.
