Or does anyone else find it a pita to trawl through past challenges trying to find something to emulate/improve upon as the basis for your new challenge entry?

No,its just you.

Okay... glad that's cleared up then.

not exactly what you mentioned, but I do a simialr thing.
I trawl through the macro shots and WONDER how did they process their photogs that they look so soft yet sharp and crisp.
My shots, after processing, become uglier :(

Oh, please share the secret of how you found them? This is terribly frustrating!

Random Method:
Challenge history
choose a challenge
click the last page

see what's there.

..

User Method
Pick a user
Go to the bottom right of their challenge entries, click the "show all" box
Then go to the upper right corner of their challenge entries list, and click the little arrow
-
Choose one with a pink ribbon

Thanks Cory. The first method was what was giving me the pip, I'll have a go at the second.

I used the second method :)

Feel the same way, is why I am not even considering entering this one.

I can't see the point in this challenge, myself, especially since it's expert. What's THAT about? Plenty of wonderful images have been DQ'd that would have been legal had the editing ruleset under which they were submitted been expert.

Maybe that's part of the point -- to be able to recreate/emulate a "wonderful" photo and have it not be DQ'd (because of rule-set limitations) ...

I will try to enter, and will enter under the same rule set as the original.

I'm pleased to have this challenge as I was new when I entered the photo that was DQ'd merely because I forgot to take the copyright off the bottom right corner of the image. It was just a newbie oversight and I'm pleased to have the opportunity to see how it will fair.

YOu DO realize you have to remake the photo THIS WEEK, right? You can't just run the old one again...

I do hope Jay will see this before entering. Otherwise he'll face a 2nd DQ on the same image.
I wonder if that ever happened before.

Heck, in a sad, black-humor sort of way, that would be kind of cool :-)

There should be a special ribbon for that one.
Especially if the maker is the same as the original one.

There is of course another easier way:-)

Look in the Challenge Announcements Forum for recalculation announcements.

I'm with you on this one! Anything goes with expert so there is no challenge in recreating something under that ruleset.

I took the shoehorn option and just went out and shot then went out and tried to find a challenge DQ that fitted the image.

Recalculations are only announced when high-finishers are DQ'd after the voting has closed -- photos that are DQ'd during the voting or which finish back in the pack wouldn't show up there.

Not necessarily, there have been some DPCer's who realized near rollover or after rollover that they went outside the bounds and requested a DQ.

Also, depending on which challenge recalculation announcement, there are sometimes 2,3,or even 4 (that did not have hight finishes) that occurred along with that high scoring DQ.

OK I'll bite.....

What you're saying is that I can't take my previously DQ'd image, clone out the copyright, and resubmit it this week?

Damn straight... Though it might be fun to do, just to be the only person ever to have the same image DQed twice :-)
