Ok, tell me what you think of this deal.

Are these good lenses? ( Sigma 28-80mm Autofocus Lens, Sigma 70-300mm Autofocus Lens)
Edit: Or could you at least point me to a website reviewing these lenses?

Thanks everyone!

I don't know about the 28-80mm lens, but the 70-300mm you'd be getting is not a great lens. If you're going to get a Sigma lens in that range, get APO version. Worth the extra $$$.

One of the many reviews I read on the web regarding the D70 was that if you get it, get the Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED lense 'cause your getting the lense at half the cost of purchasing it alonge.I don't know nothing about DSLR's but that review has stuck in my mind in considering the D70. One of the other combo's at Ritz/Wolf is with the Nikon kit lense at a bit more, but it is, apparently, worth it.
Here's a link to the lense review: Nikkor 18-70mm review

Has anyone here actually dealt with AMphoto before? Also, is there anywhere else to check seller's ratings? (besides resellerratings.com)

What is the best battery for the nikon d70? Is there a difference between the generic and nikon brand besides the price?

The Nikon will most likely last longer between charges. I have two of the Nikon batteries on one of those dudes will last forever.

How much did you get it for?

In my minolta dimage 7hi days, battery consumption was a real issue. I had to carry 3 sets to get me through a full day's shooting.

Before buying the D70, that mindset urged me to buy a backup battery, an urge which I'm really happy that I didn't give in to. The D70 battery is wonderful. I haven't measured the total shooting time, but I go weeks on a single charge, shooting about 5-6 hours a week.

Battery life in the D70 is almost a non issue. It's great! 350 shots on average on a full charge. I don't carry a second battery (and you guys can all shush;) ) Just don't forget to charge the batteries. :)

Bringing them with you is important too.

With any battery? Or the actual Nikon brand? How much/many mAh should there be in a battery for it to last a while?

I actually did a model shoot this weekend and took over 400 photos and my battery is still showing a full charge. I like having the backup, but haven't actually needed it on a shoot yet.

As for cost, I don't remember. Whatever Ritz Camera charges.

$40 US at Ritz.

Not like I'm thinking of getting a new battery or anything...

Sorry I'm so paranoid about all this! You guys are great at putting up with me!
After all this craziness, I'm pretty darn near sure I am going to become a member!

bump and do you guys use the actual nikon battery or imitations?
09/07/2004 02:35:17 AM · #24
Bah humbug!

Guess my camera is a battery hog. I keep a backup and use it fairly often. Then again maybe it's because I do night photography and many of the shots are 5-10s exposures, compared to you daytime 1/500s folks...

Get the actual Nikon's. I've heard bad stories about extremely short battery charges, battery life, you get the idea. I'd say it's worth the extra cash to not worry about it.

Use the Nikon battery. A battery and charger should come with the D70, so all you would need to do is buy the spare, if you want it. Honestly, I doubt you would need it for awhile.
