I'm not sure if this is even a good suggestion or if it's been mentioned before...and I know you guys are making improvements but why not have a limit of 100 thumbnails per page and more than one voting page? It seems that it would load faster anyway. Mine still lets me vote for around 10 images...then it gets stuck..and I have to go back to the thumbnail page to load again and start all over.
Will limiting the number of thumbnails to load make this any better? And also..if you could have another page just for the ones that we've voted on already (with a button to click on to get there from your thumbnail page), that would be nice instead of having to wait for all of those to load on our thumbnail page too. Like I said, I know nothing about the technical stuff but I just thought I'd ask. :)

I thought I was the only one with this problem. I like the idea of breaking things into multiple pages and having everything that is already voted on be on a different page.

I've never experienced this problem -- can you elaborate?

Is it like you click on vote .. click on the first image .. rate it and the next 10 .. and then all of a sudden it doesnt load anymore?

And are you dialup?
07/24/2002 04:18:12 PM · #4
No..I'm on a T1 connection at work. But it does it at home for me too. (that's dial-up) I have the same problem both places though.
It's all like you said.. and I can watch the progress bar at the bottom of I.E. go all the way across and then it goes to the next photo. But after about 8-10 photos, the progress bar will go all the way across and the photo will just stay there. It won't go on to the next photo. It actually counts the vote....and if I've left a comment, it picks that up too. But I have to go to the top of the page (under the title) and click on texture..or whatever the name of the challenge is that week, to go back to the vote thumbnails and start all over.
At work it's not that bad, because they download pretty quickly...but at home...I get really frustrated with having to go back all the time.

Wow..I'm glad it's not just me. :)
It wouldn't have anything to do with being on a Mac...would it? Are any of you using a Mac?

I am on a mac. I did some voting at work(pc) but now I can't remember if it happened there.

I use a mac at home (dial-up) and I've never had the problem. I use a pc here at work with a T1 line and I've never had that problem either...weird.

Those of you having the problem... what version of MacOS are you using, and what browser and version are you using? Also, is anyone having this problem on a PC?

I've seen the same problem at home as well on my PC using IE. When I'm using an SGI I never see the "full-size picture" page, but that may be because Netscape on SGIs is a piece.

I have 9.2.1 and IE 5.1 and haven't had any issues...

I' usually on a PC (Windows ME), AOL 6.0, DSL at about 400kps. I have this "voting interrupt" every once in a while. Usually after 10-15 votes I will enter a vote and it goes back to the vote thumbnails. I've also have a related problem of clicking the "Post To Forum" button and either getting a "Page Not Found" error, or getting the "Not Currently Logged In" generic home page -- I think I reported thata couple of weeks ago. I've taken to copying the text of all my entries before I post them.

do you guys vote from the beginning? the only time mine goes back to the voting page is it i reach the end of the thumbnails...and then there are more to vote on if i've skipped some at the beginning.

For the next two weeks, take 10 pixels in the morning and 10 right before bedtime.

-----

Periodically I get the page not found error message. Sometimes my vote doesn''t want to "take". (PC, IE6)

Would dearly love a max of x thumbnails per page. Ditto on having options such as "show me only the pics not yet voted on or pics not yet commented on or give me all pic I rated 7 or 6 or whatever.
I am now in the process of fine tuning my vote and adding comments that I initially omitted. Thought it would be a breeze but it''s so slow that it''s a royal pain.

I get the same "Page not Found" error if I start a post get distracted. yea, I did the laundry today. The baby needs a bottle. Dang, forgot to mail that bill. Honey, have you seen my camera, I don't know where it is. Your parents are HERE! You want WHAT for supper? Have you seen the pacifier? What about his blankie? Why is the DPChallenge reply page up?
Dang, where was I? Oh yea, if I get distracted during a post, and take to long, it won't let me post. I figured it was timing out or something.

karmat, appreciate your dilemmas. However, I get the Page Not Found error when nothing was distracting me and I was posting quickly.
Also, it seems not possible to change votes based on thumbnails only (after having already voted on all of them).
What irks me the most is that just when I have all the thumbnails in 3 browser windows, Aol disconnects me. Then, when I reconnect the thumbnails are gone. (Should get rid of Aol. Lazy, I guess).

I''m on a G4 iMac OS 10.1.5, IE 5.2 and it happens all the time to me. Both in my old apt. with DSL, and now in my new one on a dialup. After about 10 votes it just refuses to load the vote and sits there on the last picture page. I''ve gotta go to home, then back to vote to ''reset'' it. When I do, I find the stuck vote was recorded.

On another subject, would it be possible after voting on an photo to automatically come back to the voting page? I would rather skip around then vote sequentially, or at least have that option.

[/i]

Maybe it''s just that configuration then. I''m using a G4 and I have the disk to update to OS9.2 but I haven''t installed anything yet.

well..after just reading the previous post, maybe that''s NOT it....lol arrghhhhh!!

I found out today that if it gets stuck and I continually click (like 25 times) on the number I''m voting...eventually it goes to the next pic.
