With all of the bickering about the Masters' Challenge, I have a little bit of a different challenge for all of you not able to participate. I have not found much success thus far on DPC, not ribboning once and having a fairly poor voting avg of just over 5. What I want, is to challenge all of you to step up your photography so that next time something like this happens you can be a part of it. Step up your photography so that you get that second (or first and second ribbon) to make you eligible. A lot of the anger and negative comments are directed towards the people who thought of the challenge as well as those who are in the challenge...they are there because they themselves have stepped up their photography to a level that allows them to be dubbed "Masters". So go out there, free from whatever is going on in DPC and just be a better photographer than you are now.

Instead of trying to beat out this in the forums, show everyone up in the next challenge.

This is my kind of challenge.

Lee, age 14

There are EIGHT challenges closing for members, and FOUR challenges closing for registered users..

My first thought when I heard about this was - cool, we're going to see some great shots.

My second thought was - hey, I can still get in!!

Let's see some some positive attitude!

14? Your not 14? Are you?

Anyway, I think this is a grand idea. I have to admit that the majority of us do this regardless of the hoopla that inevitable pops up here from time to time.

If you follow the Tales of Tranquility link in my signature and scroll down to About the Authors; that is my proof. And I add that to emphasize that even a little kid can see these things.

I wish I'd had your attitude when I was you age. Damnit, I wish I was so positive now.

I've only ever been close to a ribbon once and that was a long time ago. The thing is, if I could get that score then, I must be able to do it again. Thanks for making me realise that. Now if I could just come up with ideas for some of the challenges... It's impossible to win ribbons if I don't enter.

I accept the challenge Lee........great idea! An excellent attitude and thread!

My initial thoughts about the Masters Challenge was that it provides motivation......both to beginners like myself to improve, and to the people at this site who have won multiple challenges. Think it's a step forward for the site, something to keep our more experienced photographers here.

Agreed. It's just the incentive I need to push forwards and do better (I mean come on, who DOESN'T want a Free Study?!) So, in order to get a free study, we have to push ourselves and do better.

the idea behind your comment (initial post ) should be a logical thought for anyone who wants to improve their skills. for one thing this site is for 'fun'... it isn't 'photography' as a definition.

and as a second, there is no reason to hold any kind of grudge against someone who has out done you.

if you want to improve your photography, a ribbon here isn't going to help you. but the drive behind the intial post in this thread might...

for me, every month is an 'open challenge'. and many months it's a number of ongoing challenges. i have goals of my own that i wish to fulfill photographically, and whether this site can help me achieve them or not, they are there. if i were bitter every time i failed, i would definately not be taking photos today...

good luck.

Hey, Hey,

ease up there kid... it wasnt a diss or anything. I remember getting shots from you via email & never thought that you were that young. Just was expressing surprise & shock about it.
Besides, I dont think aga matters much with stuff like this. You'll either get it you want, you know.
You do however seem quite mature for a 14 year old. Big ups to you!
