7 years, 700 challenges, 107,000 votes. bye-bye!

I tried to hang in there. It's too much hassle. Too many people hate me. The SC hates me. I get attacked by tear-down sharks when I am out doing my photography. I don't have time to sit on my butt watching the forums. The challenges here are often a waste of time because they are ill-conceived and/or poorly timed. There are many fewer quality challenges offered. There is a shift to Expert Challenges preference.... something I didn't sign up for. Legal collaborative efforts have evolved into cliques. Forum and voting rules are not enforced. I don't think anyone is in charge.

It's time for me to reallocate my time to better use. I have a photography business which is growing. DPChallenge has been very important to my development as a photographer. I loved the way I used to learned something new every day. In my mind it's a tragedy to observe this grand house descend into chaos. I suspect many will cheer my departure. So be it. I will miss my friends.

To my many friends... You know where to find me. I'll stand by until my May challenge entries complete their cycle.

Ditto. All things considered, I'm pretty sure it's the best choice for you, Richard. I'll miss you, but we'll stay in touch.

Thanks, nam. My wife applauds my decision, as she was aware of how much time and energy I put into this site. She is excited I will redirect my energy fully to my business and family. In a significant way, I spent way too much time here. I'm energized by the prospect of being free from what were my daily contributions here.

I will absolutely miss your entries and you as well.

If it doesn't work out, feel free to come back. And please don't go and delete your wonderful portfolio ok?

Cory, conditions at DPC have gone "beyond the pale". I don't take my departure lightly. I will retain my portfolio. But, I won't be coming back. I really tried to stay, but things are on the steeply downwardly-inclined slippery slope.

I'm sorry to see you go... please let your portfolio stay alive.

I will miss your knowledge that you shared in the forums and in your comments on my photos through the years. You always put in the extra effort to explain in good detail how to be better.

I will also miss studying your beautiful landscape shots, hoping that in turn it would help me understand my own better.

Good Luck in your business and I hope that your passion really takes off and your reach your wildest dreams,

Thanks, Hot_Pixel, for your kind comments. Truth be told, my passion and energy for photography and business was being blunted in the last few months by DPC. Tonight, I am free from what had developed into a burden.

Thanks, PennyStreet. My portfolio will persist. But, my decision is firm. A sense of peace and calm has come over me. Life is good!

I am glad to hear this Richard. I can understand fully. I barely, participate on DPC and more and almost never post to threads these days, However, I did want to make sure that I said thanks to you for what you have done at least for me thru the years.

Hi Richard,
We have been silent virtual friends for many years on various sites and I've watched and witnessed the joy, the fun, the laughs, the hurt, the pain. I hear you. If it's no longer fun, redirect your energies to that which is. Your family and you will only be the richer.
If you do upload your wonderful natural scapes and wildlife (especially bird) images please notify "me" on Facebook or Google+ (Or create a mail newsletter registration option or RSS feed on your website) I'd hate to miss another Colorado scene of yours or a beautiful American bird.

Enjoy the new found freedom. Thanks for all the great images over the years and the odd comments on mine.

Harvey.

I can certainly understand your wanting to spend your energies elsewhere, but I will miss you and your photos: you are yourself, just as your portrayals are your signature, no mean achievement.

Good luck to you Richard. I really do think that you will find the time away somewhat cathartic. I love the work you have posted here so I am glad that it will remain. I hope this new direction leads you to many exciting and creative adventures!

Good luck, Richard. I have admired you photography and learned a lot from it. I have a lot more to learn, and I am sorry I will not be seeing new work from you. I wish you the best.

Richard, I kind of grew up going to Estes Park as a kid so I still try to get up there a few times a year and when I do I love seeing your images hanging aroundtown. Maybe someday I will bump into you up in RMNP. Take care and good luck.

Sorry to see you go, but I do understand and sometimes share your feelings about things here. Got a personal website or page somewhere else I can bookmark to see what you are doing?

Thanks, PapaBob! My Alpenglow gallery is open every day. Stop in and say, "hi".

Best of luck, Richard. There's not enough time in the day for the things we do enjoy, let alone the things that have begun to become an aggravation. I wish you continued success in your business and much enjoyment in your environment that you capture and present with such passion and skill.

One of my top priorities is to create a world-class website with shopping cart. Now, I'll have time. It should be ready by 4th of July. Thanks for your comments Yo_Spiff! You're a good human being.
