My Computer (Gateway with Microsoft XP) does not recognize when I plug in my camera (also a Gateway). It is not the USB port. Any suggestions, Microsoft nor Gateway were bery helpful to me.

Thanks in advance to everyone!!

did your camera come packaged with a driver disk that you may need to install?

If the camera was being recognized but now it's not, it's possible you might need to uninstall the drivers for the camera and then plug it back in and let the PC "find" it again. Don't take this as gospel, you should only do this if you know what you are about.
I assume the camera software was installed on the PC as-recieved? In any case, do you have a manual that tells you how to install? If you do, look for a troublshooting guide.

Kirbic, that is a good idea to uninstall & reinstall. camera software was installed after receiving PC. Did not come with it.

I had this problem before and just restarted my computer with the device plugged into the usb port and it recognized it.

like kirbic said, you most likely have to uninstall the drivers first before attempting a re-installation.

try going to Gateway's website and downloading the drivers from there just incase you have a problem with the software that just developed.

All else fails get a card reader.
