is it just me or does there seem to be alot of submissions that are off topic. Maybe someone can define road sign for me. As for right now I am too tired and that may be affecting my vision. I will recheck my off topic comments tomorrow.

check here for photos which are always off topic, off center or off focus //www.pbase.com/wheeler1992/wheeler1992

Wheeler some are, but I guess any sign along the road could be considered a "road sign" I thought most of the signs were of official road signs, only a few are of other types. I guess I see it as long as it was along the road it is fair game.

to me, a road sign is a usually flat metal sign posted by a municipality to alert drivers & pedestrians to some point of safety

DIP / STOP / CROSSWALK / RR / NO PARKING / SLIPPERY WHEN WET / etc

to me, this does not include sign that indicate STREET NAMES

it also does not include any sign erected by any commercial or political enterprise

end of definition as deemed apropos by SPIDERMAN

ps - must be sturdy enough to support webbing :)

If I had the opportunity, I had planned to do something with a "Sign" on the "Road of Life"... Being 10,000 miles from home and living in a hotel room, I settled for a traffic sign. Literal interpretations of challenges are perfectly alright. But creative interpretations might just make for more creative photographs.

Give it a try :)

I disagree with your exclusion of street names, as they are there for the benefit of road users, and no, I didn't enter one! You also missed out directional signs. I do agree that advertising is pushing the subject a bit far.

ps - what do you mean by webbing?

Street name signs are road signs. I can find documents from numerous standards-setting agencies (such as the FHWA and AASHTO) defining standards for those and other types of road signs.

Keep in mind that many challenge participants will take an interpretation of the challenge that may be not 100% literal or different than yours. To a point, this is not a bad thing. If it's clear to you that the photographer had the challenge in mind when shooting, try to give them some latitude. If, on the other hand, it's quite obvious that they ignored the challenge entirely, they I certainly cannot fault you for penalizing them.
