We haven't had a post processing side challenge in awhile. It's probably time, especially since quite a few people just bought the Nik plugins. So, I'll post an image of my own every week or so. If other people want to join in with their own images, so much the better. The only rule is that if you post an edit, you need to put your editing steps, so that others can learn from your work.

Here's the first:

If anyone wants the original NEF file, PM me. I warn you, however. It's 50MB.

Oh how fun. I was talking to someone about doing this again just the other day.

This is not very inspiring but it was a dull grey day today. WARNING: I know there is a lot of sensor dust, very noticeable in the sky. Cleaning is in order.

Raw also available, but the files are a bit bigger than Ann's for some reason.

If the challenge is to see who does the "best" post-processing, I'd think the idea would be to post a not-so-good (poorly-composed, -exposed, or both) image, and to see who can get the best result out of that.

GeneralE I'm not sure that was the intention for this challenge.

Ann, lovely image. Here's my taken on it.

Other people may have different intentions, and they're welcome to post images here too, but what I'm more interested in is seeing how people use their artistic vision and the available tools to take a decent capture and turn it into something that's really stunning.

Edit to add...like what salmiakki just did to my flamingo shot. I've had that image sitting on my hard drive for months. It was a nice capture, but I had gone blind to what its potential was, until I looked at her edit.

Here is my take on salmiakki's image. Did your camera fall in a mud puddle :) That sensor is really dirty!!

You did a nice job on the clouds. Could you write down your editing steps to let us have a peak?

Hello, I just joined the forum and was going through some of the threads and this one caught my interest, perhaps I should say my 'artistic' interest :). If I understand the intent correctly, the idea is to present a rather mundane capture of your own along with an edited version and what edits you did to it to enhance it ? And to do the same to captures presented by others, if you wish to do so?

Pretty much, yes, though it's a little more oriented towards seeing how others would process your images (or you, others' images) than it is towards showcasing your own processing on your own images.

Alright here's my take. Needed to spend a little more effort on the shadows but ran out of time.

Opened PS and tone mapped in HDR Pro
Used Viveza for Structure, Warmth and Contrast
Brought into PS and D&B the highlights and shadows
