ok, so we are coming to Austin, TX (since everyone seems to be coming to Florida) on Apr 5-8th. This isn't our first rodeo but I would really appreciate if you could share some of your near and dear places to visit. We have visited a few times to the San Antonio and Hill Country but never Austin. I know that that Bluebonnets are just now coming into season...so crossing my fingers we should get to see a boat load of them!!!

Looking for good photos (duh), food - not over the top pricey, but local...can be hole in the wall kind of places, come quaint shopping...not mall stuff...but things I can't find here in Florida. We like antiquing.

And possibly on that Sunday the 7th...a GTG? I'd be open to any suggestions...hint, hint....

Austin is awesome!! That is why I live here. ;)

www.Austin360.com is a good website to take a look at for anything local happening and good places to eat etc.
There are literally so many awesome places to eat it is so hard to recommend anything to tourists. The best thing you can do is go to that site and plan out places to try. Unless you have a specific type of cuisine you are looking for, I can try to point you in the right direction. Food trailers on South Congress are a new and fun trend. Good people watching too!

For Photos:
360 Bridge
Mt. Bonnell
Lake Travis
Lake Austin
Lady Bird Lake
Capitol Building
Congress St.
South Congress St.
6th street (before dark)
Zilker Botanical Gardens
Zilker Park

You can see Blue Bonnets by just driving the highway. Not the most picturesque, but out in the hill country towards Enchanted Rock (another good photo area) I hear they are awesome. You could even drive out on 290 towards Fredericksburg and probably get some good shots of them too.

Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Funny Bear...

We are going to base out of Austin...but plan on going into the upper Hill County, we are really hoping to see Bluebonnets. Tis the season...

We've been to San Antonio, Greene, Fredrick and Comfort (and every other little town in between). My sister has told me about Willow City Loop. But we haven't ever explored Austin. I think the capital building is worth seeing (anyone have pictures??? hint...hint). I'm open for some Wildlife Preserves...but more or less we just want to really explore all around Austin (we will happily put on a thousand miles in the four days we'll be there). We are staying in Round Rock.

If any of you have some pictures to share of interesting things I sure would appreciate it...

Yes the capital bldg is worth seeing. As is Lady Bird Lake and Barton Springs. There are SO many great places to eat. And if you like jazz don't miss the Elephant Room. 365 nights a year!

Yeah downtown is pretty cool..i.e. the capitol bldg, etc. There are a ton of photo oportunities in the area. I drive through round rock every time I go down there but don't know much about that town except it looks quaint.

I would love to drive in but really can't that weekend. If you find yourself in Louisiana, however, look me up.

Well, I'm off tomorrow...

Does anyone have any good recommendations for German food in Fredricksburg (I know it's a duh thing) but I don't want to spend a lot of $$ and shouldn't have to...to get good food...

This should be a great time...thanks guys for all the suggestions.
