Similar to bad writing contests we hear about every now and then:

How about an intentional "brown ribbon" challenge, where members are aiming low, trying for that subtle but unmistakable genius found only at the nadir of our hobby - the ability to produce a photo so bad, so unbelievably wretched and foul, that it's brilliant. You just keep staring, like rubber-neckers at an auto accident.
Voting might be tricky (is the worst photo a 10 or a 1?) but it would bring out the creativity in many.
PS: with a subcategory for worst border?? |

I was thinking of just a black photo, like with the lens cap on, then took it one step further...
how about one with the cliche finger with the lens cap on. That would be brilliant in bad sort of way. |

Took me awhile to find it, buried at the bottom of the "Shadows" challenge, but here is your lens-cap idea, minus the thumb:
Eight people actually gave him a "10!"

This one didn't get the brown, and you can see that it is technically much better than the above (better crop).
