I have been waiting for about 2 months and my new Telescope finally arrived the other day. Its a Meade LXD75 -AR5 (5inch refractor)
AR5
It has a focal length of 1143mm @ f/9.
Here is my first moon shot with the new scope using the D60
also it comes with a Lunar/Planatary imager, but it has not arrived yet, but I am anxious to try it out.

What a REALLY nice moon picture! I even called my husband in to see it. Can you take some other planetary pictures and post them - I'd love to see them!
Thanks for posting your cool moon picture. |

Just give thanks that refractors don't need to be collimated. I have a reflector that I tried using for astrophotography but the damn thing is not collimated and I can't get it right. Now I have to send it to the factory to be fixed cause I broke one of the motors trying to attach the Digital Rebel to it. I guess the camera was just too heavy. LOL

gonna get a shot of Mars at its closest to the earth for the next 60,000 years? I went to find it (suppose to be between Pegasus and Capricorn, roughly), but too hazy at this time. Look again later and try my 300mm at it.

Nice set up dood. But like photography, you'll be lusting for a 12 inch Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain in no time.

just wondering, how do you connect the camera to the telescope? Do you need some special telescope or something to connect it to the camera. |

I'm wanting to know the same thing.I bought one from walmart.Had a 2,3,600mm with it.I bought it when I was in panama city beach.I could see boats miles away and see people standing on the deck of the boat.with the naked eye the boat looked like a speck. There was a man sitting on the beach and I could tell what time it was looking at his watch.
what was the cost of yours and how much was the camera adapter?
Thanks

Thanks for all the replies. I will try to answer all the questions in this one reply.
Laurie, yes Im holding out on you guys, actualy I got it wednesday, but just had time last night to photo through it.
TooCool, yes I will get a pic of the Canon mounted to the Scope soon.
June, Meade does have colmination screws on this new refractor, I just hope I never have to use them.
Sammie, I will get some planets soon, only bad thing is they are not up when Im up right now. Mars is up very early int e morning and upiter has gone to bed by the time It gets dark and Im not sure about saturn, but it out there some where.
dacrazyrn - yes I will wait up for the next close pass of mars :)
Jacko, I have an 8" Meade SCT also, but need to sell it. I actualy decided to go with less power on my scope so I can do more wide field viewing and photography. I have access to a 36", 24", several 18" and a few 14" telescopes when I meet up with my club to satisfy my apeture needs.
Siggi, I use a t-ring or (t-adapter) to connect the camera to the scope. It will look like this

Hey James, congrats on the new 'scope! Fantastic image, very crisp.
Looks like you had some great seeing; I am jealous, it's been absolutely lousy up here all Summer. Ah well, maybe things will improve in the Fall.

Thanks, the seeing was ok last night, there were some very thin clouds, but other than that plus the moon being out it was ok. I think I can get a sharper image straight out of the camera. I need to play with the camera diopter and my Angle C finder to make sure they are all synced up for focusing through the scope. I do like focusing with the refractor a lot better than with my SCT.
