The wind challenge just ended, and I'm curious why my entry scored in the low 5s. I expected this to be near or above a 6. Looking at the voting pattern, I see a very large percentage of 4 vots, and those are the people I'm most interested to hear from.

The comments from Posthumous, and Jagar alone would make me happy.

I voted 7, it was pretty high relatively... Was surprised too, much lower than I thought...

My thoughts:

I quite like this, but i think some may have found the left side of the drift to be overexposed and glaring; many likely found the image to be lacking vibrance as it's white on grey and black. The top half of the drift seems OOF and many will dock you points on that.
Overall i would have estimated this to be in the 5.65-5.8 range upon first viewing.

I think you set yourself an impossible challenge. My vote was 5 as I do not like the composition nor the very high contrast. I have not idea what angle would work, maybe a different lens would give you a better result. I have seen a great photo of groomed snow taken with wide angle lens. Maybe that would have worked better.

Thank you for the various viewpoints. It's very nice to hear how others see things.

Ok -- this isn't right either. But I just wanted it to be more interesting. And there really are some interesting parts of it.

It seems like this could be so cool with the right crop and the right matting. This isn't it -- but something like it:

(oh, I also flipped it because people mostly view from left to right. And I find they're more forgiving if the right side is in focus than out of focus. So while it's fascinating that the wind is coming from the right and you see that in the blur, the blur is the last thing they're left with if they look from left to right. When you flip it, they're left with the cool bits of snow.)
