Okay, the people at the site where I teach my photo classes (morgueFile.com) have been kind enough to set me up with jodiecoston.com and have offered me hosting space for my own website. I've come up with sort of a rough draft to give to a designer on what I want (you can see it here:

I've left messages with people in my local area about doing this for me and e-mailed a couple of them, but have gotten no response. I'm a little frustrated because I'm excited to get my site up and running, but nobody seems to want my business! Anybody here who can point me in the right direction, I'd sure appreciate it! I'm a complete dunce when it comes to html and all that web stuff and desperately need help.

Ever so thankful,
Jodie

Hi Jodie,

I know someone who does web-design etc. Their web-site is: //www.up-2-d8.nl/ and e-mail info@up-2-d8.nl
The web-site is in Dutch but I know english is no problem for them.

Good luck,

Dirk Jan

By the way your //morguefile.com site is great

Thanks, Dirk!

When I've searched for web designers on Google I get a neverending list of irrelevant stuff and I've had trouble sorting through it all, so I thought it would be good to check for a personal reference here. That site looks good - I will contact them!

Jodie,

That's a very clean and elegant layout you've created. Is it just that page, with a few pop-ups for contact info, etc., or would it involve an online storefront for your CDs and lessons? Your sample page looks pretty simple, and a lot of the members here (including myself) could handle something like that easily. I'm really surprised that more members haven't come forward to offer help.

Since you've already established the layout, you might try the yellow pages for a local web designer. For trickier work, I've used Scout Productions. It's just a two-person outfit, but they're smart and they know their stuff. Good luck!

Jodie, a friend of mine runs a small company that does this for a living. Check out Blue Sky Projects. Or email marc@blueskyprojects.com. See what you think.

btw, I like your online photo course a lot. Thanks.

Shannon -

I think I'd have a couple of other pages:

1) A contact page with a few words about myself and information on my custom photography services.
2) A page with a bunch of buisness concept images.
3) A page with a bunch of scenics and backgrounds.
4) A page with links to my online photo lessons.

The pages with the images would have options to order photo CDs, with text concerning what they'd get. I'd have a link to PayPal so people could buy online (I've seen that on a lot of sites and I think it's an easy thing to add in) or I'd offer direct billing, too.

The page regarding the photo lessons would also offer more in depth lessons on CD (also via PayPal) which would include professional critique on the assignments.

I THINK it's fairly simple, but like I said, I don't know much about web design - the whole thing frightens the living daylights out of me. :)

Thanks for the kind words on the layout. I like doing graphic design and it's very important to me that my layout is professional, attractive and easy to navigate, so I thought if I created something like this to give a designer, it would make it easier to show them what I'm after...

Anyone here interested in giving it a go, send me an e-mail. I'm looking for quotes. I'll also check out Scout Productions. Thanks so much for the link!

Hi Jodie, you can always find freelance designers on rentacoder.com I am one of them you can see my resumee here if you whant, but for the moment I have one job I have to finish until one week and then I go in a 2 week vacation. If you are not in rush I'd be happy to help you when I return if you are, you can place a job there and get plenty of offers. Make sure you ask for theyr portfolio first and chat a bit with them before you accept any bid, not all of them are good but many are, and much cheaper than webdesign companies.

I'd help you out, but I have no time since we're in between selling and buying a house.

I could do parts at work, but cannot dedicate a lot of time.

Jodie, with Photoshop and Adobe GoLive, it's a snap. Do you have GoLive? If so, you can do it yourself and maintenence is a breeze.

hi Jodie,
Hubby & I design websites, that's our business. We'd be happy to talk to you. You can check out our site Dinny's Designs. It's best for us to talk directly, PM me or email me from my site if you are interested. I'd love to hear from you!

Now you're probably going to get too many designers contacting you!

Lol yeah! I emailed you directly earlier.

I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for, best of luck.
You have a good eye for design and that's an important first step... most clients coming to website designers have so little idea of what they want and are often so wishy washy as to make it hard for the designer to pin down what they want either. With your initial design work you'll be a dream project for whichever firm you choose.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks everyone! I've finally got some directions to go now. I REALLY appreciate the responses here and via e-mail...
