Can anyone tell me why this got a 1 ? It meets the challenge 100%, and I still recieved a 1. I don't understand some voters rational. maybe they just vote 1 on all the submitions except there own? Whatever.

I liked it and gave it a 7. I'd chalk the one up to not being able to please all the people all the time.

Maybe someone just didn't like it or thought it was tacky or doesn't like selective desaturation or etc etc.

Many reasons, as with every image entered.

Some people are just @ssholes, some are stoopid, and some are just here for their own ego boost. Just get use to it. There is always someone out there trying to tear ya down or thinks there is something wrong with your work. You like it...then don't sweat it. It is a great shot.

It's magic. There are "ones" just floating around the site - and they attach themselves in a random order.

(But if it makes you feel any better, one attached itself tothe blue ribbon winner too.)

The admins monitor all unusual voting patterns and disregard "troll" voting.
Nice image, I gave you a 7, this debate occurs every challenge, why anyone could give a 1 to this is beyond me! don't worry about it. The voters proved it is a great image by it's placing.

If the entire crowd shouts "we love you" the noise should drown out the little person in the corner yelling "you suck." Learn to ignore it - your image is excellent ;)

Everyone gets a 1 every now and then - at first they are hard to understand but with time it will get easier ;) I do believe that some people vote the good shots down on purpose, but it really doesn't change the scope of things when over 300 people are casting votes.

Just be pleased you only received one of them. This fella had 5 and he also met the challenge.

Why focus on the negative, anyway? Tastes differ. Ribbon winners frequently get 1's as well. You scored in the top 10% of the field, what's to complain about?

08/23/2004 09:43:32 AM · #11
It probably got a 1 because they didn't agree with the way you edited it, and in their opinion it probably didn't have photographic integrity.

It's frustrating to get a 1. I don't think I've ever given anyone a 1. A submission would have to be completely off topic and look like something your little brother takes when he tried to take apart your camera.

I got scored toward the bottom (this was my first entry) and although I knew it wasn't the best, I wish people who give 1,2,or even as a score would have the decency to say something about it. I joined this site to try and improve in different areas of photography. Being rated low, and getting no feedback isn't going to help anything.

Fortunately, the feedback I did get was very supportive, and I've appreciated that.

Well you got a 1 for the same reason this got a 1

the trolls like to think it can upset us - hey who cares ;-)

Sorry for complaining, I'm just curious as to who votes so low on a photo that fully meets the callenge. I gave you a 7 Falc. Great shot

I don't think it has anything to do with meeting the challenge criteria - doing that doesn't automatically give you x amount of points.

Although if it doesn't meet the challenge a 1 is quite frequent.

Take a look through the challenge archive and see the amount of 1's. Not only that but also 3's and 4's are quite rampant in decent high scoring photographs.

Just down to trolls & taste!

At least if it was a troll, then they thought you were a big enough threat to vote you a 1.

I gave it a nine I thought it was great.

Why can't a person vote on a photo that they don't like and give it a one? Why do all the (quoting you guys now) @$$holes and trolls have to whine about the fact that the voter didn't like the shot and gave it a one?

You only got one one and one three. That's damn good! Quit crying... You make all the other babies cry too...

It is like I said, these people who vote the 1's may really be our superiors. We would learn so much from them if they would show us the light by explaining their reason, so that we can improve our craft and avoid offending their artistic equilibrium. But if they did that, then we would see their ports and subject their ports to criticism.

Do not take it seriously, these are the jokers..they are in every deck and everywhere where you have a voting model.

Hell, look at the winning photo, it got a 1. But it still won right?

Overall one vote does not effect the outcome fo your score that much.
As math guy would tell ya, one bad vote changes your score a very little.

People just vote the way they vote, some have systems, vote with their emotions, some its just love it or hate it...

Bad votes are a fact of life here

This is fantastic advice - the best I've heard.

I absolutely agree! I think a lot of people give low marks to try to boost their own score. Even though there were several 'looking through the glass' images of flowers this week, I liked this one best. The yellow against the b/w really stands out :) Don't stress over it, every single shot I've submitted has gotten a 1.
