I know this subject has been beaten to death but the quality of the recent discussions and the level of the overall interest seems to point this way even more than ever. Pity :(

Unfortunately almost none of the good ideas for the improvement suggested by the members have been implemented. Is there anything  langdon is planning to finally do? Like appoint someone to improve the quality of discussions and generate more interest. I think the time for a significant change has come. The concept of DPC is very good but the current implementation is letting it down to a slow death. |

| I consider all my contributions to dpc - fees, snappyshots and snappy remarks to be a tremendous boost to the quality of everything here. |

Your point about involvement from Langdon is well taken.. and I agree that the discussion threads need a quality improvement.. but to suggest that that means DPC is dying due to lack of interest? I don't know about that. |

Didn't you hear? DPC died a couple of years ago. Yep, up and croaked, kaput, fini, flatlined....

To be honest? I care, because I think it was either a poorly thought out statement, or it was a genuinely insulting assessment of the quality of the discussion that occurs in the forums..
Either way I'd like to understand her intent or lack thereof. |

I seem to recall that sometimes, things like critical analysis and honest comments are sometimes viewed in a very negative way, and can sometimes lead to acts of retribution.
But hey, maybe I misunderstood the differing points of view.

However you choose to perceive the value of this site is up to you, and the onus of its value is on you as well.
You get out of something what you put into it, and also know to take what you need and want......and leave the rest behind.
I've been here a little over six years and I still love it.
Look within yourself to glean what you need and want......then go after it.....
ETA:If you leave it to others to give you guidance and direction, well......then you'll get what you deserve.

FWIW I have come to see DPC as the photographer's equivalent of a gym - simply having a membership isn't going to get you fit. You have to get in there and do some work if you want results. You don't necessarily have to enter challenges in order to participate, but you can at least stand on the sidelines and learn about what's going on through forums, and cheer on your faves by leaving comments.
And oftentimes those who are good in a particular area will share their secrets with you, if you PM them and ask nicely. Want to improve your landscapes? Go look at the Landscape challenges (and yes many a FS entry) and see what works and what doesn't. Ditto for wildlife, portraits, still lifes, food, nature, macro, flowers, PhotoChop etc...
I would be very sad to see DPC die. But there is no ignoring the relatively small fields of entries these days, increasingly 100 or less.

Define quality in improvement.
Maybe you're part of the problem. Or were in the past.
I don't see any problem with the current discourse going on. What would you improve? What don't you like? |
