Canon PowerShot G2 or Nikon Coolpix 5000? Which is better in terms of macro/photo quality?

Thanks.

Dell has often 10% or if you're lucky 15% for very short periods.
Always check techbargains.com in case they have a additional coupon you could use for dell (scroll down , look on the right).
Price match with american express gold ( could make you save an addition 100$ ). I just ordered mine for 90$ in prevision of a digital SLR ..he he he he

The Nikon has similar macro capabilities to the sony 707. You can focus on something that is practically touching the lens. When you couple that with the 1mp advantage over the G2, you have great macro photos...

I have a Nikon CP5700 and it does great on macros. The focus is very close, and the detail is incredible. It comes with their low dispersion glass, which is usually reserved for their high end lenses. Here is a macro I took Sunday of some marbles. Came out very nice!

They are such cool macro pictures! Great use of DOF! I really must play more with the macro function!

If you are truly obsessive about macro, get a D-SLR and use bellows. That gives you ultimate flexibility.

Honestly, though, it all comes down to the person behind the camera. I have seen somebody take superb macro pics with a loupe and a Kodak 4800 - the latter has a close-up limit of 13 cm or so!!! It all depends on what you want to photograph and how well you know your equipment.

In the UK the Nikon 5000 is over 650 while you can get a G2 for just under 430.
