exporting from lightroom - DPChallenge Forums

i have my image ready for an upcoming challenge, processed the way i want, it looks great on my screen in LR but when i export to the 800px it looks terrible.

it didnt look as bad last night, but today at work it looks worse. color banding, pixelation, not sharp..

not sure what the problem is...

It almost sounds like very bad compression artifacts. Some of it could also be that you exported to a wide-gamut color space, and at work you are viewing it in a non-color-managed browser. That would not explain any pixelation or lack of sharpness, though.
What *would* explain it is if your browser zoom at work was not at 100%. Check that for sure. Also verify your export settings carefully. You might also try exporting a full-resolution shot and resizing in another editor, then comparing. I've actually had very good results exporting web-resolution photos from Lr, in fact I use "Publish" to directly update SmugMug. But for Challenge entries, I almost always export full resolution and do some level of work in Ps (I have yet to enter a Minimal Editing challenge).

I checked the browser zoom already and these are the same lightroom settings i use all time for every entry.

i'll try the export at fullsize and resize in PS.

it seems to be the 800pixel limits because when i do 1000pixel like my 500px exports it looks fine.

It may be something funky with aspect ratio, did you try exporting it in normal size than try to resize it in PS. Ive had that happen before and PS seemed to straighten it out. Just an idea.
