| My mom nudged me into entering a photo contest on Pictures.com. Well I got a letter today saying I was moved into the semi-finals. Well I wanted to know if EVERYONE gets into the semi-finals? |

I sent a picture in over a year ago. After a few months I was moved into semi finals. When they asked me to buy the book I relized there plan, get people to buy a book with there photo in it.
There letters are very nice, make you feel proud.
Made me more intrested in photography. Because of them I found this site.
I like there idea even though some bad photos make it in to the book then it makes my picture look better. :D
But ofcource there will be some good photos too so I desided to buy the book, its due out in sptermber 30th. I like to have a book with one of my pictures in it, its fun to show it to others. Well, it would not be fun to show it if your photo was bad but mine is very good.
So to me if I get the book its not a scam. But its in a gray area.
They do alot of good work, they encourage alot of people to take better photos.
I'll keep you posted, about the book if you want.
I say, just try sending in a picture to the site, get there semi final letter, if you like to have you picture in a book then buy the book. For me it has been nothing but fun. (that is if I get the book).

Lots of threads in the forms if you do a search. Yes, it's a rip off. However, you may find you like the book. Just be careful sending them money. $

How can you be mad at them for taking advantage of our human need to get praised? Everyone likes to hear good things about what they do. Picture.com justs gives us what we want for a price.

| I see pros and cons in this scam...The pro is that it makes you want to learn more about photography and do better because someone is telling you that you're good at it. Like others I was a little kid that entered and won, and wanted to go further. The con is it's a scam. |

That is what happened. I got this little digi cam for Christmas and took some pictures in the spring and the one I entered got "picked" to go into the semi finals and the book. It did get me more interested in photography. So I guess it isnt so bad.
I might get a copy of the book. I am kinda interested in what the others people are submiting.

You will be a simi winner in every contest you enter. They will submit your photo in every book you wanna buy also.
I bet they have winners also, but with as many people who enter... Only a few can get the prizes.
It really is a contest... Just WHO will win... ???? |
