Greetings again from the Critique Club :)

I would like to invite all photographers who have received Critique Club comments to sound off here.

Are the critiques you have received useful?

Are they detailed?

Are they over and above any comments you received in the challenge?

If you don't want to aswer in this thread, please send me a message via PM or email on my profile...

Thanks :)

I think people are doing a pretty good job so far, especially for just starting out and getting things organized as well. The last one I got was especially nice, because the reviewer really took time to look at and comment on several different aspects.

I've read a lot of other reviews lately (browsing the recently commented-on section), so I've read a real variety of styles. I think everyone gets across useful information beyond the typical comment. And I expect people's comments will improve as they get used to the process...

I give you (collectively) a solid 7 for content/style, and maybe all the way up to a 9 for organization/effort. I've responded with an additional comment on the photo or a PM to the recent reviews -- I plan to do that for all of them if I can.

Thanks for your efforts!

I have seen some really empty, short reviews with little additional info (something else as short reviews that manage to go in depth), that I would regard useless if I got one like that.

But I've seen more of the really helpful kind.

And I've seen one "test critique for randomly assigned critique club photo" on one of my own. ;-)

So far all 4 CC-comments I recieved were so in-depth that they were very helpfull to me.
As far as I can see, the CC-critiquer took enough time to judge my submission. It's the comment that is the most important to me.
However, I seen very short, non-informative critiques too that were given to other peoples picture.

So keep up the good work.

If anyone feels that their CC comment is inadequate, please let me know. I will try to look into it.

As for getting 'additional info' from your CC critique... that could be hard to do sometimes. :)

John,
I have recieved three critiques since the CC really got rolling. One of them was above and beyond the call of volunteerism, very professional, and has been very helpful. The other two were both encouraging but not real helpful on the technical side.

Thanks to you and all of those that have given their time to help out with this feature of the site.

The comments I have received have been helpful. The person doing the review has usually taken the time to review the other comments that were received during the challenge and added his/her thoughts regarding those comments as well. I like the comments divided into the technical, processing, and general categories. That helps me see if only one aspect was off or if the whole concept is just not good. I really appreciate the efforts and time that the CC'ers are giving to the site.

Well, I just read the first CC comment I've gotten since I resumed submitting to the challenges (on "Megan at the Train Station"). It was by emorgan, and it blew me away completely. I'm very happy :).

Glad this thread was started - I asked for and got one critique from the club so far and found it very helpful! It was done by jmmmsp and it's obvious time was spent looking at the photo before the critique was written. As a new person to digital photography it really helped because it pointed out what was done right as well as what needed improvement. I've been wanting to thank jmmmsp but didn't know how - is it assumed that the photographer thanks the person from the critique club or is there some way to do this?

I will definately look forward to more in-dept critiques from the club!

Nothing's assume :-) You can always PM the personal to tell the person whgo critiqued your photo that you appreciated .. that gives energy to do more. I just got a nice PM from somebody I did a critique for. Sometimes people explain a little why they photo was like this, sometimes they say thank you. Sometimes they do not say anything.
Every approach is fine :-)

Do we get to critique the critiquers? Hehehee.
I think they are all doing an awesome job. I think that getting people to write down what they intended their photo to look like in the description part will help the critiquers to better understand the photo they are critiquing. I will start putting down my intentions. Keep up the good work all.
Sonja
I did just think of something that people have discused in the forums several times. Titles. If the critiquers happen to think of a different title, then it would be nice to hear their imput, but only if the person states it in the description area. Make sence? I have a hard time writing what is really on my mind, so bare with me.

Works for me. I like knowing if the photographer found something useful. I'd also like to know if the photographer still has unanswered questions regarding my critique. I am more comfortable with an informal conversational style, so I tend not to break it down into categories but try to cover most everything.

So, yeah I'd like to see more feedback on critiques, and particularly would like to know if there was something more I could do.

I would like the Critique to be done during the voting rather than after.

I love getting feedback from photographers to let me know their thoughts on my critiques. Sometimes I've just had a straight and appreciative thank you PM which, as Lionel said, is great and gives energy and impetus to do more. Sometimes I've had some indepth discussions with photographers answering points I have raised, giving me more info and discussing their thoughts on my critique. Those are great too.

It's nice to know that the critiques, which take a lot of personal time, haven't just disappeared into the ether and getting a personal response is a nice way of letting critiquers know that their efforts are appreciated...
