I'm going to be photographing twins that are just under two years old for a work colleague tomorrow. I've never shot kids of that age before, not entirely sure what to expect.

Ideally we're going to get some good weather and I can use their garden, but failing that if it rains (and it's entirely possible in Scotland) I'm looking at setting up indoors (lights / backdrop) but I'm wondering if it's possible to get kids of that age to sit still where you want them for long enough.

Any tips, either photographic or in dealing with children?

Thanks in advance!

First off, no, they will not stay still. LOL! Your best bet is probably some action shots. You most probably will need something for them to interact with. Luckily, with two, you can get them to interact with each other. Plan on running around, a lot, and maybe some tears if they don't know you well. Good luck!

Thanks Kelli, that's pretty much what I was expecting! Hoping to avoid the tears, but I guess with children it's just a case of turn up and see what happens rather than making any firm plans!

The upside is I'll be sticking around for lunch so I've got some time to let them get familiar with me rather than just rolling up and dragging all the kit out.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that.

My friend has twins and they love the camera. They interacted with each other and by themselves. They take most of theirs at a park. One would run and the other would follow. Most of the shots were action. The ones that werent were of them together smiling. They turned out really well. I actually think it would be easier to photograph twins because they will occupy each other. They were 13 months.

This is what I was hoping, though the weathers not looking great I may have to chase them about the house!

I'll probably just follow them about for a bit for action stuff and once they get used to me see if we can get some individual portrait shots.
