I always say I would like to do more challenges, but time is something I do not have a lot of, so here I say it again! But I do visit DPC on a daily basis.

I had the absolute pleasure to photograph a concert festival for the British magazine, Kerrang! I was approached by K! to shoot "Knotfest" in Pacific Junction, Iowa on august 17th 2012. Knotfest had a total of 8 heavy metal bands, with the headliner being Iowa native, Slipknot.
As far as photographing concerts/bands, there is not another band I would think that could be as much fun and photographically entertaining as Slipknot was. (With maybe the close exception of maybe Kiss...in their younger days). I was going to shoot the concert anyway (A friend of mine is a member of Slipknot), but with the addition of Kerrang!, it made it more worth while.

Corey Taylor, lead singer for Slipknot has an amazing vocal range, and does a great job of playing to his audience as well as the cameras.

I do not like to brag, and usually keep a low profile, but I wanted to post something here. I was pretty stoked at the opportunity Kerrang! gave me, and was very happy with my work. I took a totally of about 1200 shots that day, but typical concert photography, I was limited to 3 songs per band.

I was using a 7D with a 70-200 2.8 (non IS) and a 50 D with a 24-70 2.8

Thanks!! It was a lot of fun. I also took notes for the article, never had to do that before, but it was fun.

Awesome opportunity! I've been to one of their shows and definitely agree that they would be an awesome subject for photography.

Out of curiosity, had you done some other band promo work or what? How exactly did Kerrang! find/get into contact with you?
