we had a beatles night down are little illegal underground club on friday and i shot 30 mins of video but the sounds shocking, i was stood at the front stage side of the PA

with hindsight i wasnt planning on video just stills but thought id give it a try, so i need an external general purpose mic

anyone got any recommendation, dont want to spend a fortune as i say im a stills guy but for thinks like this video is cool

also i was thinking of a wireless sender from the desk might have helped as well, sadly the studio engineer wasnt there as we'd mornally record it to 2" 16 track tape and i could have got a digital bounce of that but he was laid up in bed with bad back.

Live music is super overkill for the built in mic in the D7000, and I suspect the same for your Canon Mk.
If you get an external mic, you will need a pad to drop the output level of the mic enough for your camera to record it without having spaz attacks.
With the D7000, there is no indication of the recording level, at least, not that I have found, so you just have to wing it and listen to some of the playback to decide if levels are ok or not.
If you have to shout directly into the mic to get a good level, you should have it adjusted about right for live music.
